It’s Orwellian!

Most are familiar with the term “double-speak.” It was a characteristic feature of the Fascist Dictatorship depicted by Orwell in “1984.”

A friend today included on her Facebook page a 2018 entry by a group called “Canadian Patriots,” a group predictably demonized by many as an alt-Right hate group. I am in no position to argue on the accuracy of that valuation though I am naturally suspicious of all such pronouncements. But the posting in question is perfect.

Pictured first is a lovely young White woman wearing earphones smiling appreciatively as she listens to her preferred music. Below is the caption: Liberals listening to rap songs about rape, murder and adultery.

What follows is an image of a White man, also equipped with earphones, whose face is contorted with rage as he apparently listens to “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” You may perhaps not be aware that Feminists a little while back went berserk condemning this seemingly innocuous piece of fluff as a typically insensitive celebration of Male seduction.

It is not my intention to pontificate on the appropriateness of this 1949 release, but the cowardly silence of Feminists and indeed the Left in general on literally hundreds of rap singles that grossly objectify Women, is disgusting! If you are moved to denounce me as a racist, please get in touch and I shall gift you with the names of dozens of Black “conservatives” who absolutely agree with me.

As a well educated White person familiar with the criteria governing Western Literature and Art in general, I accept without hesitation the notion that Art entails the submission of feelings to the mediation of morality, imagination, intelligence and creative skill. To state, because one is angry or full of lust, “I’m pissed off and need to get Fucked” Is Not Art. Most Rap, be it produced by a person of color or otherwise, is primitive in precisely that way. Failing to conform to what used to be considered the defining characteristics of Music, ludicrously assuming that outbursts of doggerel ending in a rhyme entitle it to the status of poetry, Rap is a perfect symbol of the cultural deterioration imposed upon us by the Left.

Am I entitled to my opinion? Am I entitled to have standards, moral, aesthetic and intellectual? Whereas my university professors of the 60s and early 70s saw such standards as integral to our cultural evolution, today’s academics see them as elitist, divisive and ultimately hateful should they impugn the values of any marginalized demographic. Yes, contemporary academics actually prefer Mindless Mediocrity to genuine Critical Analysis. Just watched a video [Dec.6] posted by Glenn Beck in which a U.S. University student argues against the principle of Free Speech in the name of social justice! He is in essence sanctioning the need for the sort of “thought police” who ruled over Orwell’s dystopia. And the “intellectuals” responsible for this cultural climate are proud of their creation, indeed shake their heads condescendingly when confronted with any other point of view.

James O’Keefe is the head of Project Veritas which recently managed to record the conference calls of the leading lights of CNN for two months, calls which unequivocally exposed the political bias of that network. In a conversation with U. of Pittsburgh political “scientist” Stephen Robar who referred to O’Keefe’s investigative efforts as just so much “crap,” O’Keefe asks him repeatedly to validate that claim. Robar just shakes his head, smiles condescendingly and, when asked again, does the same, explaining “I’m not going to play your game.” His hubris, his arrogance is absolutely typical of most contemporary academics who, when asked to explain themselves, inevitably resort to violent name-calling or wordless derision because, when all their Neo-Marxist mumbo jumbo is stripped away, there is no intellectual basis to most of what they believe.

    1. Thank you, Josepha…..I think I’ve written almost 90 of them now……all because of the quarantine, of course.
