Former Punk Icon abandons the Left

While I realize there are millions of Americans who will not vote Republican in the upcoming election due to their loathing for Trump, I read of no Republicans who have abandoned the party because of their disenchantment with its “conservative” policies and ideas. Yet I never stop learning of former Lefties who are now disgusted with the Democratic Party because it seems to have abandoned the very principles which led them to vote for it in the first place. Aggressively anti-Trump, Bill Maher is nevertheless constantly deriding various aspects of the “woke” Left. Insisting he is still a liberal, his liberalism is barely distinguishable from my conservatism, the quality they generally share being simple common sense. Two blogs back I discussed the evolution of former leftist David Marcus who maintains Democrats have become elitists who will tell any lie to remain in power. Even more compelling, however, may be the April 24 declaration posted on X by Cherie Currie of her reasons for abandoning the party she used to see as a genuine champion of the rights of the common man.

Currie, the lead singer of The Runaways, an all girls group whose 1976 hit “Cherry Bomb” seemed to define her as a rebel against what was perceived to be the oppressive status quo of the day, has now decided the Democrats to be the oppressors of contemporary America. On April 25, The Blaze published a piece entitled: “Former singer of iconic all-girl rock band The Runaways eviscerates Democrats in scathing takedown.” Currie’s post read as follows: “It used to be Punk, R.& R. to vote Democrat. I fell for it. But when your party demands you live in fear, squaller [her spelling], beyond your means by just buying groceries, gasoline, supporting Criminals, chaos, riots, Hamas, Failing Israel, demeaning us at every turn! Hurting our Children! Wasting our Money. Ineptitude with every policy! Lies and more lies — No more! ………… Voting Democrat used to be cool. But now it just makes you a fool.”
