On Oct. 28 The Blaze published a wonderful piece by Duquesne U. professor Rona Kaufman in which she explains why she, a lifelong liberal, will be voting Republican in the upcoming election. Quite succinctly she states: ” I am voting Republican to protect my liberal values.”
Citing her feminist activism in the past, her support for Obama, Hillary and Biden in the last three elections, Rona, a Jewish woman, sees the reaction of the Left and its various mindless minions to the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas as an indication of their utter lack of “moral clarity.” On university campuses across the country, she says, pro-Palestinian demonstrations have been launched with little criticism from the Left. Indeed the Israelis have been accused of pursuing a genocidal agenda when they are in fact the targets of the very same.
Obviously relevant to the issues at hand, Rona points out that traditional Islam, as is evident in Iran, Afghanistan and elsewhere, is utterly illiberal, persecuting gays, imprisoning women who refuse to don their hijabs, demonizing all non-Muslims and indeed reveling in an authoritarianism that is the very antithesis of liberalism. And yet “conservative” criticisms of such abominations, it seems, are denounced by most on the “inclusive” Left as just so much Islamophobia. Her basic point, in other words, is that the political perspective she used to support has now degenerated into a form of sentimental dementia from which Reason and Morality have more or less been banished!
Kaufman admits she will be voting for Trump “reluctantly.” As I have said in several blogs, America ought to be gifted with candidates more evolved than either he or Kamala. Yet given the Ideas and Values under consideration, this devoted liberal says she must most definitely vote Republican. Common sense is absolutely on her side!
