On May 28, Alexandra Lavoie of Rebel News reported on the May 24 demonstration launched in Montreal by a group called “Montreal 4 Palestine,” which declares itself to be not Anti-Semitic, but anti-Zionist. Zionism, it is implied, is rooted in an ugly Racism rather than any legitimate claim by the Israelis that they are in fact the victims of longstanding hatred and violence in the Middle East.
The protest was one of many that have plagued the streets of Montreal over the last several months, some of them actually directed at Jewish synagogues, this one featuring an effigy of a Jew hanging from a noose. Predictably, in response to charges that the effigy was an abomination, representatives of Montreal4Palestine argued that it was directed at one specific Jewish politician rather than at Jews in general.
One of the leaders of the movement, Mahmoud Khalil, found guilty of death threats and other forms of hate speech, had just recently been granted 12 months probation by the courts on the grounds that he desist from any such behavior during that period. Yet there he was in Montreal a couple of weeks later engaging in the very same. To those such as Khalil, Hamas is an agent of Palestinians’ justifiable “resistance” rather than a terrorist group. That this is a lie, is an inarguable fact. That events such as that of last Sunday in Montreal implicitly incite anti-Semitic violence, is equally self-evident. And yet Montreal’s police simply stood by as the marchers spewed their hatred.
Coincidentally, no doubt on behalf of Inclusiveness, the government of Quebec just recently passed a law prohibiting public displays of religious worship by any particular group. Yet as Montreal’s pro-Palestinians filled its streets with their Islamic chants last Sunday, the police, once again, simply stood by and watched! Surprise, surprise, a double standard seems to have infected Canada’s culture!
Imagine if the the protests presently plaguing Montreal’s streets consisted of White Westerners expressing their outrage at some of the Medieval aspects of Islam still given credence throughout much of the world. Charges of White Supremacism would explode across the airwaves and Montreal’s jails would be jammed! But the insane notion that Hamas is Not a Terrorist organization and indeed that it is a heroic defender of Palestinians’ Rights, is apparently beyond debate because innocent Palestinians are in fact dying. In the ludicrously simplistic “progressive” ethos which has infected our culture, the Other is always right and those who espouse the Rational, Enlightened Values of the West are always wrong. Truly ridiculous!
