As you no doubt already know, an April, 2025 high school track meet in Collin County, Texas, resulted in the death of Austin Metcalf, a 17 year old White boy who was fatally stabbed by Karmelo Anthony, a Black youth of the very same age. While Anthony did not attend the same high school as Metcalf, he for some reason entered the space reserved for students of his school. When Metcalf asked him to leave, a heated argument ensued. Anthony, bizarrely equipped with a knife, plunged it into Metcalf’s heart.
June 8 was the first day of Anthony’s trial. On June 9, Black conservative Jason Whitlock appeared on the Blaze News Network discussing the protests which had occurred outside the Collins County courthouse where Anthony was being tried. The theme of the protests was that self-defense was not a crime, though Metcalf was conspicuously unarmed! Whitlock posted a video of the outraged crowd which featured an adult Black Male ranting over and over again: “The only good cracker is a dead cracker.” As he did so, the police simply stood by and watched !
Being a conservative, Jason Whitlock’s views are shaped not by the Color of his Skin but by his respect for Reason and Morality. When it was decided that there would be no Blacks on the jury determining Anthony’s fate, Whitlock said he was “overjoyed,” clearly convinced that a portion of his peers would never consider finding one of their own guilty of the first degree murder of a White Man. In fact several Blacks had publicly expressed that very opinion!
Tuesday, in advance of the final verdict, Whitlock discussed with Owen Shroyer the possibility that riots might break out should Anthony be found guilty of murder. While Shroyer deemed this to be quite likely, Mr. Whitlock demurred, saying that fools calling for the death of all “crackers” were no doubt fanatics, while the vast majority of Black Texans would never consider condoning an obvious act of murder. As Karmelo has now been found guilty, one hopes that Whitlock is correct! Yet in the aftermath of the verdict, Anthony’s mother was seen to drive away repeatedly chanting the word “racist.”
No one knows the details of the words exchanged between Anthony and Metcalf in their confrontation. Perhaps the latter did engage in racial slurs. Or perhaps he was simply trying to convince Anthony that he was in the wrong place. But whatever the facts, a murder was committed that could in no way be justified with the argument of “self-defense.” Absurdly, those demonstrating on Anthony’s behalf were able to do so only because of the simplistic narrative imposed on our culture by the “progressive” Left., a narrative rooted in the assumption that in any conflict between a member of a “ruling elite” and an “oppressed minority,” the latter is always the victim!
Imagine if a White Male were to appear in public chanting: “The only good Black is a dead Black.” He would be arrested immediately and reviled from coast to coast in both the U.S. and Canada. But Karmelo Anthony no doubt felt entitled to kill Austin Metcalf because he was consumed by the myth of his victimization. And his mother was able to dismiss his guilty verdict as a matter of racism for the very same reason. What gives one hope is the existence of people such as Jason Whitlock, a Black man utterly immune to the Identity Politics of the brain dead Left, a man who would never dream of exonerating a heartless murderer because of the color of his skin!
