On Aug. 6, I was delighted to read Townhall’s report on the reaction of mainstream American Democrats to the success of individuals such as Abdul El-Sayed, who just recently became the Democratic candidate in Michigan’s upcoming senatorial election. Sayed is both a Muslim and a Socialist and, according to the N.Y. Times, the increasing prominence of individuals such as he has led many mainstream Democrats to believe the American public will emphatically reject their party in the next presidential election.
Jonathon Cowan, founder of the centrist think-tank “Third Way,” says he will wage constant war on Leftist radicals such as El-Sayed, in order to insure that Americans move to the Rational Middle in 2028. Inasmuch as the Conservatism I espouse is most definitely of the Rational Middle, this initiative may in fact make the Democrats and Republicans almost indistinguishable in the not too distant future.
It is typical of Leftist ideologues to suggest that Right Wing Radicalism is but a logical extension of Mainstream Conservatism. But the latter is compulsively committed to Reason, its disdain for DEI mandates, for example, being rooted not in bias against those who might profit from them, but in a righteous concern for those who might unjustly suffer simply because of their color or gender! The socialist/communist proclivities of many on the contemporary Left, however, seem to me to be logical extensions of an Ideology perfectly comfortable with the notion that Governments have every right to impose their definition of Social Justice on one and all, even at the expense of the Rights and Freedoms formerly considered essential to any Liberal Democracy. Democrats, in other words, in denouncing the extremists within their party, may in fact be affirming their allegiance to the values implicit in the MAGA agenda. Or are they simply seeking to stay in power while continuing to embrace some of the truly Anti-Democratic ideas implicit in their grossly Sentimental Ideology!
