Are Republicans who Criticize Trump Traitors, or Men of Conscience?

On Sept. 17, The Blaze reported that The Detroit News, a paper fairly consistent in its criticism of Trump, had nevertheless endorsed Republican Mike Rogers in the upcoming Michigan senatorial race. Abdul El-Sayed, Rogers’ Democratic opponent, was, the paper said, a devout Muslim and a radical Leftist with some truly disturbing views, including those which seemed decidedly anti-Semitic. At the same time he continues to conspire with individuals such as Hasan Piker whose most notorious statement was that America had in fact deserved 9/11! The paper’s endorsement of Rogers was clearly rooted in the belief that upholding America’s Values took precedence over its disdain for Donald Trump! At the same time, it was no doubt concerned for the future of the Democratic Party inasmuch as a recent poll shows that almost 50% of Michigan citizens would never consider voting for a Muslim!

Republicans, it seems to me, must be equally critical of Donald Trump, whose often flip and/or belligerent manner of dealing with many issues and opponents suggests a fundamental disrespect for the norms of intelligent, civilized discourse which might very well incite many Americans to abandon the Republican Party. On Sept. 9, at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas, Trump ludicrously promised every American a $5,000 bonus should his party retain its majority in the House and Senate in the upcoming elections. His offer, which would cost the government more than 1 trillion dollars, simply ignored the 1.8 trillion already added annually to the nation’s absurd debt which, for the first time ever, recently topped 40 trillion dollars! Even more disturbing, however, than his financial irresponsibility was Trump’s apparent effort to buy a victory in what is generally promoted as the world’s greatest Democracy. Truly absurd!

As I have said repeatedly, I utterly support Trump’s views on Law and Order, DEI, and the Integrity of America’s Borders. But this does not mean I need to bow before every one of his sometimes absurd declarations. His hostility towards Canada, I find ridiculous. Perhaps I am biased. Yet when he makes statements such as that of Sept. 9 in which he literally attempts to bribe his way to an electoral victory, Republicans who find the Cancel Culture of the Left an abomination, must step up and denounce him for his equally obvious disdain for the Democratic process!
