While figures as disparate as Nancy Pelosi and George W. Bush have made statements implying the breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6 to be a “terrorist” act no less deplorable than the destruction of the Twin Towers, such hyperbole not only manifests a chilling disregard for human life but gives to the “insurrectionists” a commonality of purpose and malice of intent which the evidence shows they simply did not have.
The Proud Boys, as I have pointed out elsewhere, see themselves not as latter day versions of the KKK, but as defenders of Western Civilization. Yet while many of them are not in fact White, the mainstream media consistently portrays them as a collection of White, racist ruffians. Among the 600 or so who have been charged with trying to sabotage the American Electoral process on Jan. 6, were 15 members of the Proud Boys. To its credit, however, the N.Y. Times, on Sat., Sept. 25, published an article revealing that the FBI had an informant who had infiltrated the Proud Boys in July of 2020 who was willing to testify that the group, while certainly eager to join in the demonstrations of Jan. 6, had had no discussions whatsoever about storming the Capitol or engaging in violence, its main concern in bearing arms of any sort being to defend itself against possible attacks coming from the Left.
The informer’s testimony is but another among many pieces of evidence suggesting Jan. 6 entailed no concerted effort to overthrow the American government but was rather an uncoordinated explosion of anger from a few hundred dissidents who were simply sick and tired of the B.S. being fed them on a daily basis by an unconscionably biased media. This is not to exonerate them or to suggest they ought not to be punished. The Rule of Law is for everyone. But comparing the events of Jan. 6 to those of 9/11 is truly demented, the recent release of a number of tapes from the Capitol’s closed circuit video system proving just that.
Having approximately 14,000 hours of film of the day’s events in their possession, the Capitol Police refused to release their tapes on the grounds that they might aid future insurgents in their assaults. But, as reported by Buzz Feed News on Sept. 21, U.S. District Chief Judge Beryl Howell declared their arguments specious and ordered the tapes to be incrementally revealed to the public. Perhaps the content of the first few videos released explains the reluctance of government attorneys to their disclosure, for what they show in their 15 minutes of coverage from 2:25 to 2:40 P.M., are dozens of men, many bearing American flags, chatting casually in the Capitol lobby. No sign of weapons; no signs of fanaticism; no signs of violence whatsoever! Yet to some their intrusion into the sacrosanct enclaves of America’s political elites is comparable to the loss of thousands of innocent American lives at the hands of foreign fanatics!
As I have said elsewhere, the image of Richard Barnett sitting with his feet up on Pelosi’s desk would seem to perfectly epitomize the disdain for the Left that motivated the Jan. 6 insurrectionists. But while not exonerating he or any of his confederates, how demented, how pathologically biased must one be to morally equate them to the suicide bombers of 9/11?
Even more disturbing is the documented fact that Pelosi and the Capitol Police had been informed of possible violence on the Sixth but had refused to take the recommended precautions. Could it be they were hoping for an insurrection as grounds for indicting Trump and all his supporters as intolerable fanatics? Did Pelosi actually take delight in the day’s events? This, I know, is the sort of statement glibly denounced as just another idiotic conspiracy theory. But the daily onslaught of brazen lies coming from Biden and friends as they attempt to rationalize their many failures, suggests they are more than capable of resorting to the sleaziest of tactics to keep their hands on the reins of power.
