The Wisdom of Jimmy Kimmel

In a monologue a couple of days ago, Jimmy Kimmel attempted to inject some humor into the reasons behind Kamala Harris’s plummeting polling numbers, that is “besides sexism and racism which are the obvious ones.”

Online disdain for his typically woke, typically mindless approach to the issue was immediate. While Kimmel suggested that criticizing Harris was comparable to criticizing a back-up quarterback, Black “conservative” Rob Smith pointed out that she had in fact been assigned by Biden to report on the situation at the Mexican border, an assignment about which she has done absolutely nothing. Her main focus, Smith says, appears to be her many staged photo-ops in which she can be seen waxing eloquent before an adoring public.

Kimmel’s reduction of a substantive issue to mere matters of race and gender is typical of the contemporary knee-jerk Left and it is pathetic. Criticism or, God forbid, mockery of any individual who is Not a White Heterosexual Male is automatically excoriated with the same tired cliches. Seek to escape the mindless political correctness of the mainstream news with a little late night talk show comedy and you are, with few exceptions, likely to be disappointed. Indeed as “wokeness” and a sense of humor would seem to be diametric opposites, the irreverent comedy to which Western audiences have become so accustomed over the last 60 years is now, like so much in our culture, on life support.
