In a recent MSNBC discussion, Joe Scarborough suggested the criminal chaos in San Fransisco was clearly a result of the policies pursued both by that city and the state of California. No doubt referring to the “progressive” bail protocols by which poor, repeat offenders are being released from detention at relatively little cost, and the absurd “progressive” edict that thieves can now steal up to $950 in goods without being seriously prosecuted, Scarborough posed the outrageous notion that Laws actually have consequences, the laws he seemed to be indicting being the very ones habitually championed by his home network. Sadly his is an insight as yet beyond those in charge of Portland, L.A., Seattle, Chicago and N.Y., all run by Democrats, all, like San Fransisco, rife with crime.
Generally blaming their failures on others, “progressives” tend to be blind to the pragmatic repercussions of their sometimes absurd policies. In late Oct. The Wall Street Journal reported that Biden was prepared to give up to $450,000 to families which, while attempting to enter the States illegally during the Trump administration, had been separated from their children. Close to 1000 claims were almost immediately registered. It goes without saying that any distress caused the children of these migrants was the result of the consciously pursued actions of their parents, actions they knew to be a violation of U.S. law. Republican Mitch McConnell says the policy of rewarding them is “beyond parody.” He and other Republican Senators have introduced a bill designed to prevent U.S. tax dollars from being spent on such a questionable cause in what are already economically difficult times. But Biden’s secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, said in a recent interview he did not think the policy would be a “pull factor,” did not think it would in any way incite a further surge of illegals. He is either a liar or a fool who knows nothing of human nature.
In 2018, when you-know-who was still president, it was considered scandalous that the Office of Refugee Resettlement lost track of 1,475 Unaccompanied Alien Children released into the States. On Sept. 1 of this year, The N.Y. Post reported that from Jan. to May Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services had lost track of 4,890! In Oct. The Times said there had already been 1.7 million illegal border crossings in 2021, by far the most recorded since 1960.
Trump mandated his Remain in Mexico policy forcing those seeking immediate entry into the States to remain south of the border until their court dates. Biden cancelled that protocol his first day in office though the Supreme Court recently ordered it reinstated. This, according to The Daily Wire, was a great relief to several of those within his immigration department. Equally ironic is the fact that gaps in Trump’s “racist” wall have been filled in at various points by both local authorities and the federal government as a simple matter of common sense. But it is “common sense”….i.e., Reason, Pragmatism, respect for the Actualities of the Real World, that the well-intentioned simpletons of the Left simply refuse to recognize.
The U.S. has neither the money, nor the institutions, nor the social programs to process and assimilate 2 million impoverished illegals a year in addition to those who choose to enter through proper legal channels. Biden’s “compassionate” invitation to the oppressed from around the world was inevitably bound to lead to a host of social-economic problems including spikes in crime, tax evasion, drug smuggling, Covid 19, voter fraud, poverty, child enslavement, etc. This is a statement rooted not in racism but simple common sense. That, unfortunately, as even the “liberal” Bill Maher never stops reiterating, is a faculty rarely invoked on the political Left.
