Zach Vorhies’ “Google Leaks” tells the story of his mounting disenchantment with Google in the years after Trump’s election. An employee there for eight and a half years, he found the company so outraged by Trump that it ceased to have any respect for the truth, supporting the brazenly one-sided narratives pushed by CNN, CNBC, The N.Y. Times, etc., while dismissing all else as just so much fake news. Covid, he says, exacerbated this tendency amongst Big Tech companies to stifle an honest assessment of the facts, Google, for example, frequently censoring those not falling in line with the pronouncements of Fauci, even though many of those pronouncements proved to be grossly simplistic if not outright lies.
Here in Canada, Tara Henley, a journalist who joined the CBC in 2013, left in Dec. of 2021, claiming it had abandoned “journalistic integrity” and embraced “cognitive dissonance,” a euphemism, I believe, for brazenly biased B.S. Tara’s priorities still identify her as one of a Left leaning perspective yet, she says, the CBC seems to have forsaken a rational approach to issues of socio-economic inequality for one based on the facile assumptions of Identity Politics…..i.e, if you are Black and poor it is because of your Color rather than the absurdity of your beliefs and behavior. Appalled by this simplistic world-view, she was often, she states with obvious irony, considered a “conservative” in her later years at the network.
An assertion I have heard often from those working in the public domain, Henley says many at the CBC secretly find its pandering to the whining of the “woke,” the whining of the LGBTQ community, for example, which is appalled by the very suggestion than Men and Women might be the biological human norm, to be a dereliction of its commitment to an open and honest discussion of the facts. But of course they dare not express their opinions. Such is the reign of terror imposed upon political discourse here in the West by those who ironically fancy themselves “liberals.”
