Adalia Rose died on Jan. 12, 2022, at the age of 15. Afflicted with progeria, a genetic disorder which accelerates the aging process while leaving one physically deformed, she was only 3 feet tall at the time of her death. Yet as hideous as was her physical appearance, she was a beautiful human being!
Adalia had every right to rant against the hand life had dealt her but she did not. A You Tuber, she attempted to inspire other young women afflicted with her condition. In tandem with her mother, she celebrated the joys of dancing and the benefits of make-up. Her entire life was an example of Man’s capacity as an intelligent/volitional being to courageously transcend the conditions into which he is born. And yet the dominant myth of our “progressive” culture is that millions [i.e., women, homosexuals, people of color, etc.] are born into such oppressive conditions that they cannot possibly be held responsible for their failure to prosper. Victimhood has become the defining rationalization of the contemporary Left. But how is it that multitudes of America’s Blacks and Canada’s Indigenous have managed to succeed while others born to the very same circumstances continue to invoke oppression as the cause of their failures? Could it be that the human spirit, as so wonderfully evident in the character of Adalia Rose, is the ultimate determinant of history, rather than the materialistic factors cited by our Marxist “intellectuals”?
