The View: A Symptom of the Times

I must admit that 10 years ago, before I noticed that the world had gone mad, before I became proactively political, I would watch The View from time to time. While not unduly concerned by the banality if not stupidity of many of the opinions expressed there, I now find them symptomatic of the abject condition of vast portions of our Western populations whose ignorance of history and biology threaten to lead us to perdition.

Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg are simpletons of the first order. You’re probably aware of the fact that Whoopi recently said she thought racism had had nothing to do with the Holocaust. Citing it as but an example of man’s inhumanity to man, she was not, I believe, speaking out of malice. But she was clearly in the grips of that abysmal superficiality at the very heart of Identity Politics, her inability to see Germans slaughtering Jews as “racist” born of her self-centered notion that racism always entails White people oppressing Blacks. Anyone even slightly familiar with the history of our species knows this to be comically simplistic.

Nothing better illustrates the degenerate state of mind to which I am referring than Ibram X. Kendi’s admission in The Atlantic of June 7 that his 1 year old daughter’s infatuation with a White, blue eyed doll had led him to wonder if she had somehow inhaled the “smog” of White superiority. The phrase comes from the writings of Black author and apparent expert on the psychology of racism, Beverly Daniel Tatum. Had Imani fallen in love with that doll because she had been indoctrinated by her White oppressors, or is the very idea absurd? Is, as Kendi seems to believe, the fact that the Western world is informed with the Values of its White founders a species of Oppression or a simple product of our historical past? As I have said repeatedly, of course there are White racists in the West. But the “anti-racism” of Kendi which sniffs racism in every breath of wind, including his daughter’s affection for a doll, is but a rationalized form of the most abject of racial biases.

Such bias informs The View. While it customarily has a token “conservative” on its panel, its cast is primarily intent on tirelessly exploiting the same uninformed, grossly simplistic collection of opinions. Reality is of no interest to Joy and Whoopi. In a recent discussion of Mayra Flores’ massive electoral victory in a Texas district that has faithfully voted Democrat for decades, each of them ranted that the vote was basically meaningless, that polls predicting the public’s imminent rejection of most everything Biden has done were deceiving. Their imperviousness to Reality is truly demented. For Whoopi and Joy, the chaos at the Mexican border is of no concern; Biden’s hostility towards the energy sector is not responsible for today’s gas prices; and the crime rampant in multiple cities run by Democrats is not an issue of any note. Such is the profundity of the gals on The View!
