For several years the wonderful Megyn Kelly, who puts Reason before Political Bias, has said she thinks Donald Trump’s temperament is not appropriate for one endowed with the powers of a U.S. President. We all know what she means. But unlike the conscienceless Left, she does not conflate his personal flaws with his beliefs, does not suggest that everything he says is necessarily devoid of value simply because he said it. Trump’s determination to build a wall at the Mexican border so as to stem the tide of illegal immigration was almost universally denounced by the Left as an example of his racism. As recently as April 18, M.S.N.B.C.’s website featured an article written, significantly I would think, by one Julio Ricardo Varela, inveighing against Trump’s “cruel border policy” and the pathetic impulse of many Democrats “to come across as tough on immigration.” Varela, rather than dealing with the real world ramifications of Biden’s “inclusive” border policies, simply implies all who disagree with them to be heartless, White jerks [i.e., variations of Donald Trump]. But who is the actual racist, Varela or Trump?
M.S.N.B.C. morning host Joe Scarborough, formerly a Republican who now identifies as an Independent, while certainly critical of many “conservative” positions, has openly defied his network’s political bias and declared that Donald Trump was actually right about the need to defend the integrity of America’s southern border. This blasphemy was compounded by his admission that the mainstream media was guilty of disingenuously pretending that illegal immigration was not really a significant issue, indeed of ignoring it almost completely. But the problem is “real,” he insisted, and “The numbers keep spiking.”
Biden’s own Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, obviously agrees. Whereas Trump, citing Covid, had invoked Title 42 to empower border agents with the right to turn away illegals who might pose a health threat to American citizens, the Democrats sought to have it revoked. Yet on May 20 of this year a Louisiana District Court Judge ruled against that motion, saying it would pose a “significant threat of injury” to the people of various Southern States. Pointing out that approximately 50,000 migrants were poised on the Mexican border in anticipation of Title 42 being abolished, Mayorkas insisted unequivocally: “The bottom line is that U.S. borders are not open.” His statement would seem to be a clear endorsement of the Border Policy of You Know Who!
While sadly under-reported in the mainstream media, online “conservative” sites such as The Blaze have been chronicling the devastating effects of Biden’s border policy for over a year now. Recently [June 27] a tractor trailer containing 46 dead migrants was discovered just outside San Antonio, Texas. Predictably, the criminal smugglers whom they had payed to get them into the States seemed to care as little for their welfare as for the welfare of the Americans who would be charged with caring for them. Outraged by the impact Biden’s policy was having on his state, Florida’s Ron DeSantis announced in early April his intention of “dumping” a slew of illegals in Delaware, the president’s home state. Why, he and various other Southern governors were moved to wonder, would any sane person invite hundreds of thousands of impoverished and potentially problematic migrants to a nation already fiscally incapable of dealing with its own manifold issues in the realms of crime, education, housing, etc., problems exacerbated not only by Covid but by the ludicrous rate of inflation incited at least in part by Biden’s hostility towards the energy sector. Of course as the tractor trailer cited above indicated, thousands of “illegals” have been escorted into the U.S. by smugglers who simply exploit those vast expanses beyond the reach of border patrol. It is these smugglers, no doubt, who are also responsible for the sharp increase of the deadly drug fentanyl in the States, this another result of the Democrats’ compassionate border policies.
Playing the Trump card has become an addiction on the American Left. It is a stratagem rooted in the belief that any idea or policy he has endorsed will automatically be rejected. Of course it is also a stratagem for avoiding any substantial discussion of the validity of those ideas and policies. Such has been the impact of the ludicrous Identity Politics that has come to dominate our culture. In an upcoming blog I shall cite examples of its wanton abuse by various members of the mainstream media, those who, rather than rationally discussing the merits of any point of view they do not like, simply dismiss it because of the race or gender or sexual orientation of its proponent. Pardon me, but wasn’t it this degenerate approach to the human dynamic that led Hitler to try and eradicate the Jews?
