Many in the gay community have apparently taken to deleting the T from the acronym LGBT to highlight their disapproval of much of the nonsense spewed by Transgenders. This is encouraging because it suggests the rejection of loyalties based on Identity in favor of a perspective rooted in truth and morality. A majority of North Americans agree that Transgender Females [individuals born with penises] ought not to be admitted to Women’s prisons and washrooms nor be allowed to compete against them athletically. This would seem to be based upon a simple acknowledgement of the biological differences between Men and Women, an acknowledgement rooted not in “transphobia” but in reality. The transgender notion that you are whatever you say you are is fraught with complexities borne out by several instances of women being raped and/or impregnated in prisons and washrooms by others claiming to also be women!
The rational “conservative” perspective on such issues seems to me self-evident. It is one’s quality as a thinking, moral being that ought to concern us and not one’s sexual orientation. It is significant that the culture which established the principles informing the European Enlightenment was that of Ancient Greece where homosexuality among men and women was not generally demonized. While Athenian society was both patriarchal and racist, it also produced truly progressive thinkers who advocated for the equality of all races and the inclusion of women in the political process. That religions based not on Reason but on “revealed” truths have historically treated and in some cases continue to treat those of a “non-binary” orientation as pariahs, is abhorrent. While there are no doubt those who call themselves Christians who continue to harbor that bias, those truly familiar with the teachings of Christ realize he was a prophet of love, not of hate. I point this out simply because the Left, with its typical lack of discrimination, tends to characterize all Christian “conservatives” as mindless, homophobic bigots. While I know this not to be true, I am hardly in a position to prove it. But what I can say without a doubt is that the various “conservative” thinkers I have cited are rational, moral beings who have shown no evidence whatsoever of a homophobic bias. Indeed Dave Rubin, a gay man, says he abandoned the Left when he realized he had landed there simply because of his Identity, while his ideas and values were decidedly “conservative.”
Those in the gay/bi community seeking to distance themselves from the “trans” movement, would seem to be rejecting their fraternity with the latter which is based on no more than their mutual deviation from the “binary norm,” in favor of an ethos genuinely based on reason and compassion. A 200 pound individual born with a penis who now says he is a female, has no right to compete against biological females in athletic competitions. The notion that he/she is entitled to do so is ignorant, arrogant and utterly disdainful of Women’s rights. This is in no way meant to suggest that individuals ought not to “identify” in defiance of their apparent physiology, but simply that they must grant the uniqueness of their condition which puts them in a category no sane person would dare define as “normal”. Yet transgender females absurdly insist on being treated as just another female.
A truly distressing tendency of transgender activists is their willingness to entice kids not yet able to drink, drive or vote, to make a decision which will impact every day of the rest of their lives. A wonderful article by Barbara Kay in the National Post of Aug. 6 cites the history of a young Canadian girl identified as Cara [not her real name] directed along the path to transitioning by advisors at her school, only to realize as she got older that, in spite of her tomboy qualities, she actually wanted to remain a female. One wonders what became of the 10 year old mentioned in Kay’s article who had already been put on “puberty blockers” by her “enlightened” caretakers. Clearly her point was that the welfare of young children rather than the promotion of the idea of Gender Fluidity, the absurd Ideological notion that our Biology in no way defines us, ought to be the primary concern of any person of conscience.
That many in the gay/bi community are unwilling to accept the tactics of transgender activists is grounds for celebration because it entails an implicit rejection of Identity Politics……you know, that Leftist paradigm which says that when Men and Women disagree, the men are always wrong…… when Blacks and Whites clash, the latter are always the oppressor……..indeed when any successful demographic is challenged by those who have clearly failed, it is always the successful who are in fact the monsters. That this is an incredibly superficial approach to the human dynamic is depressing. That most of our “intellectuals” endorse it, is utterly bizarre!
