Writer/journalist Bari Weiss says she severed her relationship with The N.Y. Times because it deterred her from expressing what she truly believes. Seeing both the Left and Right as crippled by bias, she now publishes a newsletter entitled “Common Sense with B” which purports to be above politics. While I would suggest most of the opinions expressed there are completely in line with rational “conservatism,” she does not seem to consider herself a “conservative.” Officially acknowledged allegiances, however, are less important than the substance of one’s views, and most of what appears on Bari’s website is perfectly rational.
On Sept. 20, Bari’s younger sister Suzy produced an article entitled “Crime is a Construct: My Morning with the Park Slope Panthers.” Park Slope is a neighborhood in South Brooklyn with an escalating crime rate distressing to many of its citizens. In the piece, Suzy recounts attending a late August public meeting arranged by one Kristian Nommack who was intent on creating a community safety patrol [the Panthers] designed to deal with the problem. Nommack is certainly no Law and Order “conservative;” indeed has described himself as “left of Lenin.” Asked by Tucker Carlson for an interview, he told him to F Off. Yet his concern with the rising crime rate in his community led several Leftist activists to interrupt the proceedings, their message apparently being that his definition of “crime” was but a White Supremacist tool of Oppression!
A female named Sky made their point of view crystal clear. “Crime is an abstract term that means nothing in a lot of ways,” she said. “The construct of crime has been so socially constructed to target black and poor people.” To both myself and Ms. Weiss, Sky’s assertions are a perfect manifestation of the absurdity of Postmodernism, the sophisticated “intellectual” basis of the contemporary Left which avers that a middle-class White person who violently assaults another human being is utterly despicable, while a Black or poor person who does the very same is simply responding to their history of oppression. It is a narrative signalling the death of Western Humanism, the death of Morality, indeed the death of Western Civilization itself. It is the narrative whose widespread tacit acceptance has led members of the “oppressed” to feel entitled to destroy public property, pillage commercial outlets [those Capitalist bastards!], burn Catholic churches, disrupt the building of pipelines and, as seems to be happening with greater and greater frequency, launch totally unprovoked assaults on innocent Whites simply going about their business, i.e., jogging alone, walking their dog, waiting for a subway car, etc., etc..
