Susan Sarandon recently posted pictures of the streets of Oakland littered with garbage and looking like the slums of a Third World city. She is one of the most radical and outspoken Leftists in all of Hollywood and, given that the last two Mayors of Oakland have been female members of the Democratic Party, her posting was seen by many as an indictment of the policies and priorities of that party. One comment, no doubt posted by a “conservative,” suggested that if the Left had lost Sarandon, it must really be in trouble.
San Fransisco has been ruled by Democrat London Breed since 2018. Los Angeles, presently led by Democrat Karen Bass, has not had a Republican mayor since 2001. As I have pointed out in previous blogs, hundreds of thousands have recently left California for the safety and security of other states, most often those run by Republicans. Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly begged them not to do so. People are fleeing N.Y.C. as well, also recently governed by “progressive” Democratic mayors., as are Portland and Chicago.
The district attorneys in such enclaves tend to be “liberals,” often put in place through the support of billionaire George Soros, one who shares the pathologically naive notion that crime, both petty and violent, along with drug abuse and homelessness, are always the result of racism, poverty, and social injustice in general. It is an ethos from which human intelligence and accountability have been banished. It is an ethos so devoid of pragmatic sense that it has produced a level of urban decay which even a Leftist fanatic such as Susan Sarrandon seems no longer willing to tolerate.
