On April 4, Egale Canada, a Toronto based LGBTQ advocacy group, published an open letter on its website accusing Tucker Carlson of inciting hatred against the Gay/Trans community. Its purpose was to get the CRTC, the agency responsible for regulating telecommunications in Canada, to ban Fox News from all Canadian cable television packages.
On Mar. 27, Audrey Hale, a self-proclaimed transgender, killed 6 innocent people, including 3 children, at a Christian School in Nashville, Tennessee. The following day Carlson commented on the increasing militancy of the Trans movement, citing the previous day’s murders as possible evidence of such. Obviously he was not suggesting all transgenders are potential killers. But the rhetoric of the Left, as exemplified by the opinions of school teacher Rebecca Rothstein whom I discussed 4 blogs back, clearly exonerates and indeed incites violence against the members of all “oppressive” classes. Here in Canada, attacks on Catholic Churches as well as unprovoked assaults on police officers have increased dramatically precisely because of that rhetoric.
So Carlson was not saying anything particularly controversial, save of course to those looking to take offense from any criticism directed their way. Significantly, given that he was recently fired by Fox, Egale Canada changed tactics, saying that even without Tucker Carlson Fox News ought not to be poisoning Canada’s airwaves. Self-centered screeds launched by those suffering from a pathological sense of victimization are hardly surprising these days. But what is truly worrisome is the fact that the CRTC, an official branch of the Canadian government, announced on May 3 that until June 2 it would be considering all submissions from both the general public as well as groups such as the brazenly biased Egale, concerning the future fate of Fox in Canada.
Hate Speech is a deplorably abused concept relentlessly used by the Left to demonize legitimate criticism of any sort. I can be outraged by the insistence of an individual with a penis demanding access to female locker rooms, while in no way being biased towards Transgenders. But as Gender Ambiguity is a condition suffered by a minute percentage of the species, those so afflicted are naturally inclined to feel like victims, indeed to lose all capacity for that rational self-awareness necessary for an honest, moral appraisal of the world. Absurdly, the cultural climate created by the contemporary Left incites such childish, self-centered dysfunction. Those claiming to be victims are almost always tolerated by our “liberal” elites. Hence the ludicrous spectacle of a Trans Canadian teacher showing up to class wearing enormous prosthetic breasts and Not being immediately fired by his/her superiors! Hence the CRTC’s apparent willingness to banish a “conservative” TV network because one of its commentators dared hurt the feelings of a group clearly driven more by self-interest than any respect for the rights and freedoms of others!
A few blogs back, after Joe Biden told the Black students of Howard U. that White Supremacists posed the main threat to their futures, I ironically juxtaposed his name to those of existentialist philosophers Kierkegaard and Sartre. Existentialists see the essence of morality in each man’s capacity for rational self-awareness while “progressives” simply ignore the concept of personal responsibility by stoking the Neo-Marxist narrative of Oppression. Hence their knee-jerk refusal to distance themselves from any aggrieved group, no matter how irrational or juvenile their sense of victimization. Hence the CRTC’s willingness to pander to the demands of Egale Canada. To hell with the Principle of Free Speech. Tucker Carlson’s comments hurt the feelings of many within the Trans community. Tucker and his network must go!
