Grossly Misplaced Priorities.

Myron Lee Jacobs, resident of a homeless encampment in Seattle, was arrested in April for the violent rape of a woman. As the King County’s Prosecuting Attorney’s office had not yet filed charges by April 28, the date of his second hearing, he was, as the law required, released. Three days later he raped again, his victim this time being a 7 to 8 months pregnant woman whom he seems to have set on fire!

The Seattle sexual assault unit responsible for bringing charges against such individuals failed to act on time because it apparently has only half the number of investigators it had in 2019. Whether this is the result of Covid or the Defund movement, I do not know. But what I do know is that effective law enforcement is essential to any civilized Democracy. It is a reality which even simpletons such as the Mayor of Chicago have now come to acknowledge. At the same time there persists on the Left the notion that members of the “oppressed” [i.e., homeless people such as Jacobs] are somehow the innocent victims of an unjust society. It is a vision of the species that is both naive and incredibly simplistic. It is a vision that ignores the irrefutable fact that Evil exists both within the Rich and the Poor, within “oppressors” and the “oppressed.” It is the vision that allowed B.L.M. to run amok in 2020 without any truly dire consequences. And it is a vision that inevitably entails legal protocols which enable people such as Myron Lee Jacobs to offend again and again even after haven proven that they are heartless animals concerned with no one but their own degenerate selves.

Whether mandating laws governing petty thievery or the rape of pregnant women, legislators need to put the welfare of the innocent categorically ahead of the welfare of their violators. That smash and grab robberies committed by individuals who have been arrested multiple times are out of control in certain American cities is absurd. The suggestion that such chaos is not at least in part a result of the “liberal” attitudes and policies of their Mayors and D.A.s is equally so. The same is true here in Canada where rarely a week goes by without some disruption of the public peace by environmental radicals, Indigenous protesters, the Black Bloc, etc., etc., all of whom have the tacit approval of the Left and are therefore greeted with far less disdain in the media than the utterly peaceful Freedom Convoy of a few weeks ago.

Should the opulent hideaways of the Bidens, Obamas and Trudeaus of the world become the targets of rock throwing hoodlums or belligerent protesters, I guarantee we would very quickly see a radical change in official government attitudes towards the Rule of Law. Ivory towers almost inevitably result in flawed visions of Reality.
