On April 5 of this year, a 21 year old Black man named Ephraim Debisa was arrested in Colorado for his obvious proclivity for violence, as manifested in 2 incidents in which he had continued to pommel individuals even as they lay unconscious at his feet. Inasmuch as his sanity seemed to be an issue, his fate fell within the jurisdiction of Colorado House Bill 24-1034, a bill passed in 2024 under the aegis of Democratic Governor Jared Polis, which stipulated that those deemed mentally unfit to stand trial must be released from custody should they not receive the necessary psychological assistance within a designated period of time. It was as a result of this bill that Debisa was released from custody early in September.
Upon his release, Steve Reams, the sheriff of Weld County, Colorado, warned the public that a dangerous criminal had just received his freedom. Indeed on Facebook he said: “Someone is going to get hurt, and someone is going to get hurt bad.” Predictably, a couple of weeks later, Debisa was arrested once again, this time for entering the campus of the University of Northern Colorado while carrying a weapon! What his intentions were, I do not know. Quite likely he was caught because the police were keeping a close eye on him. But why, one must ask, was this psychopath released in the first place?
Yes, there are racist, misogynist, homophobic lunatics who use conservative common sense to justify their hatred. But they are in no way affiliated with mainstream conservatism. The absurdity of legal jurisdictions throughout North America which release recidivist criminals if not actual lunatics into the public domain, is that they are in fact a product of the mainstream Left. Ephraim Debisa was set free due to a piece of legislation sanctioned by Colorado’s Democratic Governor Jared Polis. Myles Sanderson was free in 2022 to kill 11 people in Saskatchewan after having been arrested more than 50 times, because of the “compassionate” munificence of Canada’s “progressive” legal system. My point is simply that it is the Mainstream rather than the “far left” that is in fact responsible for the horrible decline in the Rule of Law here in our Western Democracies.
