A Pandemic of Hypocrisy

In May of 2017 the Black staff and students at Evergreen State College in Washington exploded with anger over the refusal of liberal staff member Brett Weinstein to remove himself from campus on a day designated by them as an admission of White racial guilt. His e-mail explaining his position was reasonable and considerate; his record as a “progressive,” indisputable. Yet mobs of mostly Black students, some wielding baseball bats, stormed his classroom, calling for his resignation while declaring Whiteness to be “the most violent fucking system to ever breathe.” Most disgusting of all was the rant of instructor Naima Lowe, a woman of color who, in response to Weinstein’s e-mail, assaulted her Caucasian associates with the following: “You are now the mother-fuckers that we’re pushing against….You can’t see your way outa your own ass…..I don’t have time for anything else. I am too tired. This shit is literally gonna kill me.” Her life was apparently in peril because Weinstein insisted on showing up for work!

This woman is entrusted with the education of the young. I frankly would have fired her on the spot. George Bridges, the president of the college, no doubt wracked with “liberal guilt,” chose to avoid taking a stand and was actually apologetic to the rampaging students.

In 2018 The New York Times hired Sarah Jeong to be an editorial board member. When informed that many of the entries on her Twitter account were, to say the least, disturbing, the Times responded that it did not feel they in any way compromised her integrity as a member of its staff. Here are a few examples of what she had to say: Dumb ass fucking white people marking up the internet like dogs pissing on fire hydrants…..White people have stopped breeding. You’ll all go extinct soon. This was my plan all along…….Are white people genetically predisposed to burn faster in the sun, thus logically being only fit to live underground like grovelling goblins…….Cancel White People!

These postings, Ms. Jeong avers, were in response to some truly vile harassment directed at her over the internet by those who disagreed with her “progressive” views. But while I am sure some of that harassment was unforgivable, is the enlightened response to ignorance and irrationality more of the same? Reading her tweets is like wading through a cesspool of racially motivated hatred. Yet the N.Y. Times, the bastion of tolerant American “progressivism” relentlessly given to exposing the slightest verbal indiscretions of those on the Right, chose to defend its hiring of this pathetic woman.

Luis Marquez, a prominent member of Portland’s Antifa, hosts a podcast entitled Jungle to Jungle. He supports and actually encourages the rioting and looting presently plaguing America’s streets. The following on-line rant, directed at Andy Ngo, an American journalist affiliated with “conservative” Canadian website Post Millennial, aptly illustrates his moral/intellectual status: “I am going to be a cannibal, dude. I am going to chop the dude’s skull up and use it as a teacup……I am going to feed people the body of Andy.”

While this was said on a podcast of April, 2020, he was still, as of mid June, active on both You Tube and Twitter. Yet dozens of “conservatives” have been banished from such sites for publishing statements that were not only devoid of anything resembling “hate,” but demonstrably rational.

How is it that The Rebel here in Canada, of which I am proudly a member, is relentlessly derided as a bastion of alt-right hatred while never posting anything that isn’t perfectly reasonable, while hate-filled simpletons such as Naima Lowe, Sarah Jeong and Luis Marquez are not only able to spew their poison with relative impunity, but are actually seen in certain quarters as “social justice” heroes.

I entitled this blog A Pandemic of Hypocrisy. Perhaps Insanity was a more appropriate term. Tough call!!
