Fox Varian of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., had her breasts removed as a 16 year old in 2019, having been convinced by her psychiatrist and surgeon that the procedure represented the best response to her agonizing issues with gender ambiguity. While her mother did not agree with the surgery, she gave her assent, fearing that her daughter might commit suicide if not allowed to transition. Sadly, Fox almost immediately felt violated and has since Detransitioned!
In 2023, Varian launched a law suit against the medical team responsible for her surgery, and a N.Y. court recently awarded her 2 million dollars for both her past suffering and future medical procedures. The ruling, apparently, was based not on the fact that a teenage girl far too young to deal with such issues had been coerced into succumbing to the advice of her doctors, but simply that they had not followed proper procedures throughout the process. Significantly, however, just this past Tuesday, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons announced that only those 19 or older will henceforth be submitted to surgical transitioning. It’s a decree perfectly in line with the common-sense conservative belief that Trans Activists should never have been allowed to invade high schools with their message because they were stressing children far too young to deal with such complexities. If 16 year olds can’t vote or buy alcohol due to their immaturity, how can they be expected to make decisions which might very well devastate the rest of their lives?
Fox Varian’s lawsuit was the first lodged by a Detransitioner to go before the courts. On Feb. 3, The N.Y. Post said at least 28 other such suits were awaiting trial. Varian’s lawyer has suggested the medical community needs to take heed as her case may in fact set the standard for all future complaints lodged by those led to have life-altering procedures when they were in their teens. Indeed the repercussions could be devastating for that community if, as suggested by some, approximately a thousand throughout the States who have been so afflicted are now considering Detransitioning!
The typical Leftist response to my approval of the N.Y. court’s ruling is of course to scream that I am Transphobic. But the fact is that while I am fully sympathetic to those born into a state of Gender Ambiguity, this does not mean I need to agree with all of their political initiatives. Fox Varian’s treatment represented both a violation of her Parents’ Rights, as well as an attack on her Identity with which she was just too young to cope. What is truly pathetic is that the scenario that unfolded would never have been tolerated 30 years ago, before Trans Ideology became an accepted aspect of the Left’s political agenda. That it has become so is due to the fact that Transgenders have achieved the revered status of an “oppressed minority,” a category automatically championed by the Left even when the ideas and actions of those so designated devastate the lives of others. Such is the moral/intellectual vacuity of today’s ironically designated “progressives!”
I am frequently reminded of the witty juxtaposition of the terms “Age of Enlightenment” and “Age of Entitlement.” We live in the latter, courtesy of the Neo-Marxist Left. If you qualify as a member of an “oppressed minority,” you can pretty much do whatever you want. Hence Black Lives Matter’s destruction of over 2 billion dollars of American property in its noble pursuit of “social justice!” Hence the devastation wrought on Women in various athletic competitions by 200 lb. individuals born with penises who now say that they Feel like Girls!
