The Woke Left is utterly lacking in self-awareness, utterly unaware of the irony of its habit of cancelling/firing/destroying anyone who disagrees with its “enlightened” agenda.
On Friday, Dec. 30, sports broadcaster Gary Hahn, in reporting the score of the Sun Bowl being played in El Paso, Texas, preceded it with the adverbial phrase: “Amongst the illegal aliens in El Paso …..” His employer, Wolfpack Sports Network, has suspended him indefinitely for his politically incorrect reference.
A couple of weeks ago El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser declared a state of emergency in his city due to the massive numbers of “illegals” wandering its streets in freezing temperatures which very well might kill many of them. Since then three local hotels as well as the El Paso convention center have been taken over by the government in an effort to save them. Such crises have arisen in municipalities across the States due to Biden’s intentional undermining of the protocols of legal immigration. Hahn’s allusion, which he included rather casually, was clearly a reference to this fact.
One might argue that comments of a political nature have no place on a sports broadcast. I would tend to agree. But Hahn’s reference was hardly polemical, indeed was barely a comment! At the same time I have heard hundreds of brazenly political statements by Leftist announcers over the years that incited no controversy whatsoever. That Mr. Hahn has been suspended is disgusting. That the geniuses in charge of Facebook, Twitter, Disney, etc., deem it necessary to respond to the whining of that faction on the Left obsessed with taking offense from even the most innocuous of statements is equally so. How do these people not realize they represent today’s version of the McCarthyism they so love to hate? At least Senator Joe, however he may have abused his authority, was seeking to quell something truly pernicious, the scourge of communism. But those in the media, academia and corridors of political power who clearly dominate contemporary Western Culture, are destroying people’s lives simply for endorsing perfectly reasonable opinions not in consort with their own.
As I have said before, I have a number of sensitive, intelligent friends working in the Canadian public sector who dare not voice their honest opinions on, for example, Indigenous issues, for fear of being fired. These are oppressive, totalitarian times which have ironically, absurdly, been enshrined by those who call themselves liberals! Hence the suspension of Gary Hahn who dared utter a few syllables which hurt no one whomsoever!
