The death of 22 year old Gabby Petito is far more distressing to many than the death of individuals such as George Floyd not because she was White and he Black, but because she seems to have been innocent of any wrongdoing while he was a career criminal. On Mon., Sept. 20, Black MSNBC commentator Joy Read reacted with disdain to the widespread attention Petito’s death was receiving in the media, referring to it as “missing white woman syndrome.”
I am reading now of the death of Sheridan Wahl of Tampa, Florida, who, having ventured to S. Carolina to visit her father a couple of weeks ago, was found dead behind a fire station in that state on Sept. 21, a couple of days after her burned out car had been discovered in a ditch 10 miles away. I mourn for her because she was young and innocent. Her color is irrelevant. But for Joy Reid one’s color is apparently a major consideration! It is not enough that the brain-dead, White, mainstream media simplistically rule against the police in their various complicated interactions with belligerent and usually criminally-inclined Blacks, but apparently that same media ought not to get unduly stressed over the deaths of innocent young White girls. So sayeth Joy Reid!
That she disgusts me has nothing to do with the color of her skin. Were she a White person expressing disdain over the undo attention the media was giving to the murder of innocent young Black women, MSNBC would no doubt have fired her within hours! But Identity Politics has apparently enshrined the idiotic notion that Black people can’t be Racists.
