As most now know, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently granted Tucker Carlson access to approximately 41,000 hours of video coverage of the Jan. 6 “insurrection.” Carlson’s purpose in releasing some of that footage was not to utterly whitewash the day’s events, but to expose the fundamental dishonesty of the narrative presently in vogue, the narrative promoted by the demonstrably biased committee assigned to rule upon those events.
Naomi Wolf is a committed Feminist generally associated with the “progressive” Left. Yet in a statement posted on Substack on Mar. 9, she apologized to America’s Republicans, saying the film released by Carlson proved much of what was being flogged by the Democrats and their affiliates at The N.Y. Times and MSNBC was an outright lie. Seemingly embarrassed that she had swallowed their gibberish, she highlighted the obscene double-standard infecting much contemporary political coverage by pointing out that while the Left had celebrated Daniel Ellsberg’s release of the Pentagon Papers which ultimately led to Nixon’s downfall, it had denounced McCarthy’s release of the Jan. 6 videos as an assault on America’s Democracy. Why, she wondered, would film evidence of what actually happened on Jan, 6 be in any way a threat to Democracy?
Not surprisingly, the simpletons at The View condemned McCarthy’s release of the videos in question. But so also did CNN and Democrats such as Senator Chuck Schumer. Jan. 6, they all believed, represented an attempt by a violent group of right-wing fanatics to overthrow the American government! But what did Ms. Wolf see that led her to denounce this narrative as a brazen Lie?
We can’t go into detail here, but the facts of Jacob Chansley’s behavior are instructive. Generally seen as a symbol of the lunacy behind the assault on the Capitol building, Chansley wore horns and a furry vestment which suggested he was a Viking warrior. But his appearance notwithstanding, he and others entered the building peacefully through a door which had been willingly opened by the Capitol Police who proceeded to escort them around the building. Indeed Carlson’s videos show this to have been the case at a number of points of entry! How, Naomi Wolf wondered, did this constitute a violent insurrection?
Chansley, by the way, was sentenced to more than 3 years in prison but was released after serving only a portion of that time.
In an interview with Glenn Beck on Mar. 8, Carlson attempted to illustrate the obvious bias of the narrative promoted by the Jan. 6 committee. Various videos released to the media included wild screaming coming from the advancing crowds. But the videos has actually been recorded without sound and had been deceptively altered for dramatic effect. At the same time, while the phrase “deadly insurrection” had been made a regular feature of every discussion of Jan. 6, the “insurrectionists” had killed absolutely no one. This includes officer Brian Sicknick who, while repeatedly referred to as a murder victim, had died of natural causes. Indeed the only overt murder committed that day was that of Ashli Babbitt, shot by a Capitol cop while climbing unarmed through a window!
The duplicity of the Jan. 6 Committee and those mindless media propagandists who repeated its lies, are in fact the very cause of the events of Jan. 6. This was not an attempt to overthrow the U.S. government, but rather an expression of frustration and disdain for a political viewpoint that has come to dominate Western Civilization with no respect whatsoever for any other point of view. Richard Barnett, who scornfully sat with his feet up on Nancy Pelosi’s desk, seems a perfect symbol of the outrage underlying the events of Jan. 6. Ironically, the crassly political, disgustingly dishonest Democratic response to those events, only serves to validate the scorn he was attempting to express. It is a sentiment even Naomi Wolf would seem to share!
