As reported by Juno News on July 20, the CBC recently posted an article denouncing Alberta’s Bill 29 which forbids those born biologically male or female from competing in athletic competitions formerly restricted to the opposite sex. While those born female are clearly not eager to compete against males in such competitions, biological males who now claim to be female generally excel in competing against women due to the obvious physical advantages granted them by nature. Their successes, to anyone of common sense, are grossly unfair and indeed would seem to entail a flagrant violation of women’s rights. But the ever sanctimonious CBC, in a typical expression of Leftist empathy, cited the plight of Alberta’s Riley Simpson, a 15 year old Trans Female who, as of Sept. 1, will no longer be able to compete in an all-girls softball league.
Bill 29 is rooted not in loathing for Trans individuals such as Simpson but rather in a simple concern for Fair Play. As the Juno article suggests, co-ed leagues and competitions would seem to be the perfect answer to the complex issue of gender ambiguity. But common-sense is rarely embraced by the contemporary Left, and the CBC makes it clear that Bill 29 is just another example of the right-wing extremism typical of Danielle Smith’s Conservative government. It is such “woke” irrationality on the Left that is in fact the major cause of the rift presently separating that sector from what I consider the Rational Conservatism of the Centre.
