Our Institutions must be above Politics

As most everyone knows, Joe Biden recently pardoned his son Hunter of any crimes he may have committed between 2014 and 2024. I have little problem, really, with the president’s claim that Hunter’s failure to pay his taxes on time and his lies in attempting to buy a gun in 2018, were less a matter of his criminal intent than of his serious drug addiction. But the truly heinous aspect of Joe’s pardon is that it seeks to stifle further investigation into Hunter’s international business dealings through which Joe himself sold his influence as vice president for the sum of several millions of dollars. Online is an article posted by the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which suggests that approximately 20 million dollars found its way into the coffers of the Biden family and their confederates via the ostensible corruption of the man who has been president for the last 4 years!

Hunter claims he has been sober for the past 5 years. But how, one wonders, in 2014 when he was still “using,” did he become a member of the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma when he had little experience whatsoever in the issues he would be asked to consider? While it seems self-evident he was a vehicle of access to his father who was vice president at the time, Joe, as the 2020 election approached, repeatedly swore he had nothing to do with his son’s business dealings, clearly realizing that selling access to himself represented a criminal perversion of his status as vice president.

Devon Archer is a longtime acquaintance of Hunter who also joined Burisma in 2014. Last year, in testifying before the House Committee investigating the situation, he swore that Joe was brazenly lying in saying he had nothing to do with his son’s foreign connections. While it is hardly surprising that one seeking the presidency of the U.S. would resort to such a lie, what is truly distressing is that an institution such as the FBI, which ought to be politically neutral, would conspire to keep the truth from the American public for brazenly political reasons. It is at this point that the drug-addicted Hunter’s laptop becomes an essential piece of evidence.

In April of 2019, shortly before his father was to announce his run for the presidency, Hunter brought his laptop to Delaware shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac for repairs. The latter informed Hunter that if he did not come to reclaim it within 90 days, it would be his by default. Upon the expiry of that period, Mac Isaac took a comprehensive look at the contents of the device, finding not only a good deal of pornography, but information he deemed highly detrimental to Joe’s chance of winning the upcoming election given that the Burisma scandal had become part of the news. In Dec., 2019, he turned it over to the FBI. While rumours of the laptop’s contents persisted, the mainstream news denounced them as misinformation and the FBI remained utterly silent on the issue throughout 2020. It was the N.Y. Post that broke the story just a few weeks before the election that year only to be ridiculed as a purveyor of pro-Trump, far-right propaganda.

Of course there is information which institutions such as the FBI need to keep from the public for legitimate reasons. But saying nothing about the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop throughout 2020 would clearly seem to be the product of political bias. Similarly, the DOJ aggressively went after Trump in the “Russian collusion” case which, it turns out, was based on nothing more than evidence provided by Leftist liars. Moreover while Trump’s 2006 one-night stand with Stormy Daniels was sleazy given that he was married to Melania, his attempt to keep it from the public hardly seemed to warrant the 2023 effort by the N.Y. District Attorney’s Office to make sure he could never be president again. Joe Biden’s corrupt sale of his political influence, on the other hand, was a criminal offence which absolutely ought to have disqualified him from running in 2020. That it did not do so is a result of the bias of America’s mainstream media, but also, more significantly, of the corruption of institutions such as the FBI which, while fully aware of the contents of Hunter’s laptop, chose to keep them from the voting public.

Kash Patel, Trump’s choice to become the new FBI director, is quite eager to expose the various cover-ups perpetrated by that institution under Biden. The FBI is but one of several components of what Trump calls “the swamp,” that cadre of pseudo-intellectual elites which thinks it is infinitely wiser than the average American citizen. But while I am fully supportive of efforts to expose the past offences and hypocrisy of the “woke” Left, I would hope The Donald has the integrity Not to use the DOJ to persecute his political opponents simply because they are such. The perversion of a nation’s legal institutions for political reasons is no less disgusting when perpetrated by the Right than by the Left, in each case being a lethal threat to Democracy itself.
