DEI is inherently Undemocratic !

On April 20 of this year, The National Post published a piece by Jamie Sarkonak highlighting the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by Canada’s Liberal government over the last few years in support of its DEI agenda. The recently released 2024 budget, she says, increased funds for the Employment Equity Act in an effort to assure the federal public sector included appropriate numbers of women, visible minorities and the disabled. This is Identity Politics at its simplistic worst, the assumption clearly being that various demographics are under-represented in the public sector due to “oppression” rather than personal choice, and that their interests cannot possibly be advanced by the racist/sexist White Males who may dominate any given area.

I shall not bore you with the multiple examples cited by Sarkonak of federal funds allocated along ideological lines rather than for the benefit of Canadians in general. One that did catch my eye, however, was the 3 million dollars given to “Women and Gender Equality Canada” to support the security needs of Pride festivals across the country. Over the last three years Indigenous malcontents have burned or vandalized approximately 80 Christian churches. How many millions has our government budgeted to increase their security? The answer, of course, is none, the “genocidal” intent of our Residential Schools apparently justifying such criminality. Indeed Sarkonak points out that the current Liberal budget allocates 5 million dollars to combat “residential school denialism.” Too complex an issue to cover here, the notion that our obviously flawed residential schools were consciously or unconsciously founded with genocidal intent is truly idiotic. Yet our “enlightened” Liberal government is using taxpayers dollars to promote a narrative that clearly incites hatred and violence towards White Christians while nevertheless pretending to be devoted to love and inclusion. The recipe for this double standard? Why the writings of Karl Marx, of course!

On May 4, my local newspaper, The Hamilton Spectator, published an opinion piece by two “progressives” entitled: There are too few Black Scholars. While 4.3 percent of the Canadian population is Black, they wonder why only 2.3 percent of leading Canadian academics are people of color. Thankfully, they report, many Canadian universities have in fact established hiring quotas for such under-represented demographics.

As a person with 2 degrees in English Literature, I value the complex cultural heritage of Western European Civilization as my most treasured possession. Perhaps you haven’t noticed that that heritage is now constantly under attack from the political Left. The celebration of the works of William Shakespeare, I have read, is an expression of White Supremacism. So also is the teaching of Math and Science to those whose cultures are not so oriented. So our brilliant “intellectuals,” in openly admitting there are significant cultural differences among the races, are in fact citing perhaps the main reason that not all of them are equally represented in our halls of higher learning. They continue to play the Race Card, however, because their mindless definition of Inclusiveness entails an implicit attack on the foundational values of the West, an attack that might clearly gain greater momentum with the inclusion of those of other points of view. That this agenda prioritizes Identity over Quality of Thought and Achievement is clearly leading us down an absurdly self-destructive path, as exemplified in the following paragraph.

On May 25 Townhall posted an article on UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine whose dean of admissions since 2020 has been one Jennifer Lucero. While admission to such schools based on race has been banned in California since 1996, Lucero, according to several staff members, has ignored that interdiction in the belief that America needs more Black doctors and nurses. The result, apparently, has been a steady decline in the school’s ranking, a significant number of its students now unable to pass tests on basic medical procedures. Indeed one staff member has quoted Lucero as saying: “The candidates scores shouldn’t matter.” Let us congratulate her on her rejection of the West’s racist obsession with Intelligence and Efficiency. And oh, by the way, good luck on your next doctor’s appointment.

Standards in many areas of our Western Democracies have been lowered on behalf of Inclusion. Inasmuch as the physical criteria formerly required by the Canadian military could not be met by most Women, they have been lowered in the pursuit of statistical parity! As several studies have shown, academic standards have been similarly altered, leading to levels of ignorance among students which would not have been tolerated 50 years ago. The irony of these developments, of course, is that they are being consciously pursued by those who see themselves as the champions of progress.
