As South of the border, so also here in the “Great” White North!
Just watched the video of a mob of immature, self-involved simpletons tearing down the statue of Queen Victoria near the Provincial Legislature in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as part of their Canada Day celebrations. Did Victoria’s reign meet the criteria of 21st Century “wokeness”? Of course not. Does any contemporary have the right to apply those standards to figures who lived over a hundred years ago? Of course not. Historical context must be a part of any honest discussion of the past. Were there aspects of Victoria’s reign that are in fact worthy of our admiration? Yes! The British, as we have already seen, were the first to abolish slavery early in the 19th Century and its navy rescued thousands throughout the balance of that Century who had been dispatched by African dealers onto the international market. If the Winnipeg mob was aware of such facts, it certainly didn’t care. Indeed that it also assaulted a statue of Queen Elizabeth suggests its target was not Victoria herself but British Colonialism in general and perhaps all of Western Civilization.
The vandalism in question, along with the defacing and burning of several Catholic Churches, are a response to the recent discovery of mass burial grounds alongside a couple of Canada’s notorious Residential Schools. This is an issue much too complex to exhaust here. But if you believe the “woke” Left and its media minions, Canada was and still is a genocidal country whose treatment of its Indigenous was no less intentionally malicious than the C.P.P.’s treatment of the Uyghurs. That this is a gross distortion of the historical facts is self-evident to anyone actually concerned with facts. While readers of the Toronto Star might assume the authorities responsible for the Residential Schools to be callously devoid of shame, both Canada’s Politicians and the Catholic Church, including Benedict XVI who in 2009 received an Indian delegation at the Vatican, have repeatedly apologized to the Indigenous community. Apologies, of course, solve little, but the Truth and Reconciliation Commission established in 2008 as well as Canada’s annual budgets have directed billions of tax dollars to the welfare of the Indigenous over the last several years. If these initiatives have failed to achieve their intended goals, it is no doubt due to both the inefficiency typical of all government programs as well as the corruption of those tribal Chiefs who seem to have done quite well for themselves even as their people continue to starve.
There are of course Indians who loathe the Catholic Church while there are others for whom it is a revered aspect of their lives. Just watched a video of an Indigenous woman lamenting that the Church she has attended since childhood has been razed to the ground. Yes, there have been condemnations of such acts from the leaders of both the Indigenous and White communities, but nothing better illustrates the debility of the contemporary Western Mindset than our Prime Minister’s bland assertion that he too found them “unacceptable”; not that their perpetrators would be duly prosecuted and that any further efforts to destroy private property or indeed our country’s heritage would be met with harsh resistance from the police, but just that such actions were “unacceptable.” It is the same disingenuous/cowardly/hypocritical level of commitment he displayed in his official endorsements of the Trans Mountain Pipeline even as he allowed it to be disrupted by radical dissidents month after month after month. [As if to make my point, Gerald Butts, Trudeau’s former chief adviser, has just said the burning of Christian churches “may be understandable” !!!]
The events of July 1 at the Manitoba legislature are a perfect metaphor for the cancer that is destroying our Civilization. There were actually police on site watching the mob of delinquents topple the statue of Victoria, but they did Nothing! The rationale behind such “tolerance” is of course that there are Injustices in our past and the intentions of such “protesters” are noble. But they are also rooted in false equations, gross generalizations and an ideologically distorted vision of History.
It was the conviction of the unassailable truth of their beliefs that led Medieval Catholics to launch the Inquisition. It was for the welfare and prosperity of all Germans that Hitler decided to eradicate the Jews. It is to defend the purity of its Revolution that the C.C.P. has been persecuting religious minorities for decades. The genius of the architects of Democracy is that they saw the Rule of Law as essential to the Right of every Individual to be protected from the tyranny of those fanatics convinced that everyone ought to see the world exactly as they do. What we have today, however, given the ascendancy of the Mindless Left in almost every aspect of our culture, is the imposition of a demonstrably Fascist Regime in which those who share its narrative are allowed to commit crime after crime with only muted repercussions, while those of dissenting world-views are locked up for mere minor indiscretions.
Thus are individuals who did no more than sit on the steps of the Capitol on Jan. 6 still being held in custody at the behest of hypocrites such as Pelosi, while rioters who have pillaged the streets of cities such as Portland for more than a year have been released over and over again to repeat their inexcusable acts of violence. Significantly, only one person was arrested in the July 1 assault on the statue of Queen Victoria, that person apparently [this has not yet been verified] a dissenter who objected to the childish antics of the mob. I am reminded of an incident a couple of years ago in which a few young Albertan males cleared a railway track of debris put there by environmental protesters only to be condemned by the CBC and Macleans Magazine as “vigilantes.” It was not those who had actually broken the Law that were demonized in the mainstream “progressive” press, but rather those who were attempting to defend it! Truly insane!
What the sanctimonious simpletons of today’s Mainstream do not seem to realize, is that once you endorse the right of any Cult, and that is precisely what the contemporary Left has become, to violate the Rule of Law in pursuit of some “noble” cause, you unleash the destructive forces of what the Ancient Greeks metaphorically envisioned as Pandora’s Box. On July 1, ten churches were vandalized in the city of Calgary. In British Columbia late that evening and into the early hours of the following morning, two Anglican churches were discovered to be in flames. In response to reports of these events Harsha Walia, the Executive Director of B.C.’s Civil Liberties Association, responded “Burn it all down.” It is a phrase we have heard from the leaders and advocates of Antifa and B.L.M. and it is disgusting. Even more so, however, is that when these “woke” simpletons see their political futures in jeopardy as the tide of public opinion begins to turn against them, they will lie without scruple in disavowing any responsibility for the chaos they have unleashed.
Thus are Democrats in the States, led by Jen Psaki, vigorously promoting the fiction that the Republicans, in vetoing various spending bills in the past, were in fact voting to defund the police. Dan Bongino points out that not one of the bills in question made any mention of the police. Cities across the States verging on anarchy as a result of the Left’s response to the death of George Floyd, the Democrats are ludicrously pushing the narrative that they had nothing to do with it, indeed that they never sought to impugn either the power or integrity of the police, this in spite of the fact there are dozens of pieces of irrefutable evidence proving them to be liars.
Truth and honesty in government, no doubt as rare in contemporary China as they were in Hitler’s Germany, are among the first casualties of a dictatorship. Hopefully we are not headed in that direction but I can promise you without a doubt that when the members of the “silent majority” finally rebel against the stupidity and duplicity of those simpletons perfectly willing to dismantle the Principles of Law and Order upon which our Civilization was founded, they will be savagely denounced as alt-right, Neo-Nazi, White Supremacist “deplorables,” no matter the common sense of their views or the integrity of their motives.
Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are unabashedly screening the information available to their users on behalf of their political bias. Here in Canada the Liberals are pushing a piece of legislation, Bill C-10, which they claim will in no way endanger the free-speech of Canadians even as their constant references to “hate speech” suggest they feel entitled to censor anything they can cram into that ambiguous category. And of course Biden’s Democrats have proposed altering the makeup of the Supreme Court because they don’t have a majority there, granting citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants whom they assume will vote for them and grossly expanding the possibility of election fraud among certain demographics [Antifa?, B.L.M.?] by eliminating the need for legitimate Voter I.D., this in spite of the fact that the majority of Americans, including Blacks, find the need for such I.D perfectly reasonable.
What, you may ask, is the point of the Left’s seeming disdain for the Rule of Law? Why it’s to get power and keep it even if that entails arbitrarily altering the very definition of a Nation State [the integrity of its borders], as well as of its Institutions [the Supreme Court, the Electoral College], legal protocols [voter I.D.], and fundamental Principles [Freedom of Speech and Conscience].
I am certainly not about to defend every aspect of Trump’s controversial presidency, but that Democrats, including the revered Barack Obama, never stop using his admittedly arrogant demeanor to indict him as a Dictator, even as they reduce their country to the level of a strife-torn, Third World Dictatorship subject to their own peculiar brand of arrogance, is truly disgusting
