Postmodernism is the ideological cancer responsible for the Left’s disconnect from Reality. It melds perfectly with that sector’s sentimental compulsion to put feeling above thought, the fundamental insight of Postmodernism being that we are all trapped within our own Subjective Reality, that there is no such thing as Objective Truth. This means that if there are 8 billion people on the planet, there are also 8 billion truths with very little chance of meaningful discourse within the species. It is a hypothesis that is both intellectually absurd and pragmatically useless. Yet with typical hypocrisy and disregard for the irony of their position, our “intellectuals” and academics love to pontificate to we mere mortals, utterly certain, apparently, that they are somehow exempt from their own epistemological skepticism.
Hence the absurd tendency amongst the “woke” today to put their “reality,” however specious, ahead of the verifiable realities of the empirical world. While there are of course metaphysical questions which can never be answered with certainty, there are most definitely Scientifically Verifiable Facts beyond dispute. Yet so cowered are “progressives” by the ethos which they have created, that when any “oppressed” group pursues an agenda that flies in the face of Science and Common Sense, they almost inevitably back away and simply grant them the indulgence of their self-serving biases.
The contemporary state of Gender Politics in the West perfectly illustrates the Mainstream Culture’s willingness to violate Reality out of deference to those who feel “marginalized” by it. The Postmodern concept informing LGBTQ politics is that Gender is a mere “social construct” determined not by Biology but by the oppressive machinations of Culture. Here in Canada, evolutionary psychologist Gad Saad as well as Dr. Debra Soh [her book: The End of Gender] never stop marveling at the audacity of this lie, a brazen repudiation of Science championed by those given to hypocritically characterizing all “conservatives” as religious fundamentalists with no respect for Science whatsoever.
Neither Gad Saad or Debra Soh or indeed the controversial Jordan Peterson is in any way interested in promoting hatred of Gays, Bis, Transgenders, etc. Nor am I. Identify as you wish; love whom you will. But the non-binary community’s insistence that Heterosexuality is not the Human Norm, that Gender is not determined by Biology, is demonstrably absurd and seemingly based on the mistaken notion that the only way to counter the irrational demonization of Gays, etc., is with more irrationality!
Inarguable fact: The Biological components of your sexual identity consist of far more than the configuration of your genitals, indeed, through your DNA, inform every cell in your body. Given the plethora of genetic permutations to which the species is prone, it is only “natural” that there will be those with the primary characteristics of one sex yet a host of secondary characteristics of the other. But that an individual so ambiguously programmed should declare their resulting lifestyle to be merely a matter of choice unrelated to Biology, is self-evidently absurd.
As a heterosexual Male for whom Females are the most enchanting creatures in existence, I can say with absolute certainty that my gender is Not a matter of Choice, as, no doubt, can the vast majority of Men. But this gives me no right to impugn the sexual orientation of others, my rational “conservatism” telling me that one’s sexual identity has nothing to do with one’s moral worth. That Christianity, up until the very recent past, and many within Islam even today, have vilified homosexuals on “moral” grounds, is truly reprehensible.
But the sins of the intolerant past do not justify the sins of the contemporary Woke. “Progressive” disdain for the biological realities of the species is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the Left’s willingness to allow Men who now identify as Women to enter Female athletic competitions. Transgender Lia Thomas of the U. of Pennsylvania recently won a long distance swimming event by 38 seconds! His/Her female competitors have declared the policies which led to their humiliating defeat signal the death of Women’s Sports! The NCAA rule which led Lia to her victory demanded only that Trans Females undergo 1 year of testosterone suppression before being allowed to compete against those of their newly acquired gender. The facts of Lia’s dominance speak for themselves. Clearly one’s Gender cannot be defined by one’s hormonal flow. Clearly Men and Women differ in a multitude of ways, including perhaps the most obvious fact of their distinctive musculature. This doesn’t mean that there are not Women who are decidedly stronger than many Men. But the woke Left’s sentimental willingness to defer to the demands of that minute percentage of the species claiming to be Transgender, even if it imperils the well-being of millions of Females across the planet, is a perfect manifestation of the pervasive irrationality of the contemporary Left.
At issue is the degenerate Myth of Entitlement which has come to replace the traditional Western vision of Man as a Moral/Intelligent Being obligated to behave as such. Were she such a being, Lia Thomas would no doubt have had the Humility and Integrity to grant that transgenders such as she are not entitled to imperil the athletic aspirations of the entire Female Sex simply to validate their own sense of self worth; are not entitled to pretend that they are just another Female when they demonstrably are not. Sadly, however, Humility, Integrity and indeed Respect for Truth, are but vestiges of the “conservative” past!
