The Leftist bias of contemporary Western Culture is self-evident to anyone of common sense. Unfortunately, the informing insight of the Left’s narrative is the simplistic Neo-Marxist notion that all of History entails a conflict between Oppressors and their Innocent Victims. In any political confrontation between a demographic that seems to be in a position of power [i.e., privileged] and one that is not, the brain-dead Left always supports the latter, no matter the efficacy of its values or behavior. It’s all relative, of course. Whereas Feminists, 50 years ago were universally championed by the Left in their often righteous criticisms of certain patriarchal injustices, they are the villains today in their opposition to various transgender initiatives because Transgenders constitute a radically smaller percentage of the species, and are therefore always right about everything. That this is a ludicrously superficial approach to issues of “social justice” is undeniable. But what is appalling beyond belief is that many in the “intellectual” vanguard of the Left are so convinced that minorities are always right, they are willing to stifle Free Speech on behalf of what is no more than a form of Religious Dementia.
I have several friends who work in the public arena and are afraid of expressing their perfectly rational criticisms of certain “woke” initiatives for fear of being fired, cancelled, or otherwise punished by the intolerant Left. On Aug. 12 True North published a piece by “conservative” Lindsay Shepherd outlining the fate of a Sept. 14 conference scheduled by Feminists in Victoria B.C. to discuss “the danger gender identity ideology poses for kids.” Entitled “Vancouver Island Speaks! Detransing Canada,” the event was to be held at a site called Ambrosia Banquet whose owners promised the girls who had rented the hall that they could be trusted to honor their commitment. Sadly, predictably, in response to the outrage of the Trans community, they have already cancelled the event.!
Meghan Murphy, a feminist writer and podcaster who was scheduled to speak on Sept. 14, posted as follows on X: “The harassment started immediately. Trans activists called and emailed Ambrosia incessantly, showed up at the venue, harassed staff ” and actually “vandalized the building.” No doubt fearful that in this sick society they would be branded Transphobes by many on the Left, the owners of the hall justified their betrayal by saying the values implicit in the scheduled event simply did not align with theirs. In a healthy society, they ought to have been able to call the police fully confident they would put an end to the harassment they were enduring. In a healthy society, the media might have been expected to openly discuss the harm transgender propaganda might inflict on kids far too young to understand the complexities of the issue. In a healthy society, those who fully empathize with people fraught with gender angst ought to be able to criticize the tactics of self-centered jerks seeking to validate themselves at the expense of children, without being accused of “hate speech.” But as we do not live in a healthy society, the contemporary Left is allowed to simply ignore such rational distinctions. Indeed “misinformation” and “hate speech” are the two charges it uses on a daily basis in its attempt to avoid actually discussing the complexities of any issue. Better just to silence all opposing points of view, as, of course, did the transgenders of B.C.!
Are you aware of the fate of Abbotsford teacher Jim McMurtry who, upon learning of the discovery of 215 unmarked graves near the Kamloops Residential School in 2021, informed a grade 12 class that they probably contained the bodies of kids who had died in the many outbreaks of TB over the last 150 years? Refusing to endorse the Leftist notion that Canada’s Residential Schools were little better than Nazi Concentration Camps, his 40 year teaching career was terminated shortly thereafter by his “progressive” school board!
Are you aware of Thursday’s firing of ESPN hostess Sam Ponder who had the audacity to agree with Riley Gaines who recently said high school girls across America were in a state of panic that they might have to compete against Trans Males in future athletic competitions? With Irony typical of this demented era, Gaines said many women with valued jobs were outraged that individuals with XY chromosomes were being allowed to dominate their female competitors, but were afraid to express their opinions for fear of being fired. No doubt Ponder understands their dilemma!
Are you aware of the fact that in England last year approximately 3300 people were arrested for engaging in online “hate speech.” It is likely some of the arrests were warranted, but how many, one might ask, entailed the disgusting abuse of power reflected in the treatment of 13 year old Chelsea Russell who, in 2017, paid tribute to a friend just killed in a traffic accident by citing on Instagram the lyrics of Snap Dogg’s rap hit “I’m Trippin.” As the song contains some vile racial epithets, she was charged with “hate speech” by the local police a year later and ordered to perform 500 hours of community service! For some insane reason she was also submitted to an 8 PM curfew for several weeks. That Chelsea suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome makes her treatment even more abominable! Yes, upon appeal her conviction has since been overturned, her lawyer calling her abuse typical of what one might expect of a “totalitarian state.”
Did you know that in 2023 the CRTC, the commission designed to oversee Canada’s radio and television content, seriously considered removing the Fox News Network from our cable packages due to the complaints of gay rights activists who did not like certain comments made by Tucker Carlson? It has not happened, nor should it, but we apparently live in a world where hurting the feelings of anyone deemed to belong to an oppressed minority, puts the very Principle of Free Speech in jeopardy at the hands of the “liberal” Left. Yes, Hurt Feelings are the defining “intellectual” criteria of our wonderfully “progressive” civilization!
