As I have said repeatedly, were I an American citizen I would have voted for Trump over the pathetic Joe Biden in 2016, this decision, as perhaps with most who voted for him, based not upon any degree of admiration for the man but upon a preference for his policies.
Trump has recently taken to mocking the achievements of Florida’s Ron DeSantis, possible his main Republican competitor should he choose to run again. Florida’s relatively healthy socioeconomic status, Trump asserts, really has nothing to do with DeSantis. The state was in good shape well before he was elected governor.
The people of Florida would seem to disagree. DeSantis was elected in 2018 by a margin of approximately 30,000 votes. In his more recent victory, that number exploded to 1.5 million!!!
The man is a true “conservative” who shares Trump’s principles while tainted by none of the personal flaws most have come to associate with The Donald. Were the former president to truly care for those Principles, he would, I think, hardly be willing to disparage one who may in fact have a better chance of winning the next presidential election than himself. But his primary allegiance, sadly, is to his ego, to his own personal advancement rather than to the future of his country. His obvious vanity is a handicap which allows the Left to demonize everything he says and thinks without actually validating their criticisms. Personal attacks rather than rational debate, you must have noticed, are now the stock and trade of the Left. Suggest an individual with a penis does not become female by simply declaring as much, and you are not apparently speaking the truth but spewing hatred! While Trump’s abrasive demeanor makes him eminently susceptible to such charges, his elevated sense of self, ironically, paradoxically, also makes him immune to them. True “conservatives” are sick and tired of seeing politicians who claim to share their ideas, back off from perfectly rational articulations for fear of being labelled with one of the myriad of “woke” insults in the Left’s Arsenal of Insults. But while Mr. Trump is not susceptible to such intimidation, neither also is Ron DeSantis, and the former, if he truly cares about “conservative” principles, needs to put them ahead of his personal ambitions. As this is not likely to happen, the next year in American politics promises to be incredibly interesting.
