I am no Constitutional scholar but can certainly understand the anger of Democrats with Mitch McConnell’s insistence that the Republicans will replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court before this fall’s election, though they refused to allow Barack Obama to do the same as the 2016 election approached. At the same time the Republican argument that the situations are entirely different given that they now control both the Presidency as well as the Senate may in fact be valid. But what is distressing if not disgusting is the response of those on the Left who hypocritically denounce “alt-right”extremism as the main threat to America’s Democracy while responding to the situation at hand with all the respect for Democracy of Hitler’s Brownshirts. If the voting public is repulsed by the prospect of a court crammed with “conservatives,” let them express themselves at the polls. How much respect for that process is implied by the following statements, statements made by those who actually seem to fancy themselves true democrats?
Reza Asian, Iranian-American Muslim and, apparently, a religious scholar, tweeted “If they even try to replace RBG we burn the entire fucking thing down.” Of McConnell’s determination to hold a vote before the fall election, he asserted “Over our dead bodies, literally.”
Author Aaron Gouveia was of the same opinion: “Fuck no, Burn it all down.”
Scott Ross, a member of Minnesota’s “ethics commission,” in a communication with Democratic Ed Markey of Massachusetts said: “If you can’t shut it down, burn it down.”
Hardly expressing concern for the worrisome prospect, G.Q. writer Laura Bassett observed: “If McConnell jams someone through, which he will, there will be riots.”
Even a Canadian weighed in, Emmet MacFarlane, a professor at the University of Waterloo, calling for Congress to be burned to the ground!
And of course the usual suspects had their say, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, not satisfied with the extent to which America’s youth has been “radicalized,” suggesting they become even more so inasmuch as a Trump victory might entail a threat to their very lives.
I recall reading a tweet by Jeffrey Toobin from July of 2018 which suggested that a “conservative” Supreme Court would make abortion illegal, ban gays from stores, restaurants and hotels and make it impossible for Blacks to get into elite universities. Of course this is a gross parody of the “conservative” agenda. Toobin’s tweet was hysterical to say the least. And yet he was a legal analyst for CNN! What hope is there that anything reported by that propaganda machine is even vaguely objective???
From the dozens of “conservative” commentators whom I admire, I have never heard anything resembling an invocation to violence. Yet every one of them has at some point been accused of “hate speech.” The “conservatism” [it used to known as “liberalism”] promoted here is Rational. It is absolutely of the Center! It is a perspective from which real racists, misogynists, etc. are exposed for what they are. And what they are is NOT an extension of “conservatism.” But the Left is rooted in Marx’s paradigm of “oppression,” indeed sanctions those who have been rendered insane with hatred by perpetuating the grossly simplistic myth of “systemic racism” [or systemic misogyny, homophobia, etc.].
I can’t imagine Ezra Levant or Raheel Raza or Ben Shapiro or Candace Owens or Larry Elder or Dinesh D’ Souza or Camille Paglia actually inciting their followers to go out and aggressively disrupt the lives and well-being of their political opponents. Yet while the statements cited above by apparently enlightened “progressives” are clearly intended to incite violence, and the behavior of many “social justice warriors” is pathetically juvenile, hysterical, ignorant and oozing with HATRED, the Left continues to support them, indeed to champion them as heroes in the sacred war against Evil [i.e., anyone who dares disagree with them].
