Have you seen De Niro’s Rant?

On a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, actor Robert De Niro ranted about the “nightmare” of a possible victory by Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election. Astonished that Trump could be ahead of Biden in recent polls, he declared him to be a “monster” who would turn the U.S. into a dictatorship should he be re-elected. Informing this valuation is his belief that Trump is a “sociopathic, psychopathic, malignant narcissist.”

There is little doubt Trump is a narcissist whose past is fraught with decisions of a questionable moral nature. So also, absurdly, pathetically, is Joe Biden. I wrote a blog several months ago citing the apology of a N.Y. Times journalist who had demonized all Trump supporters as idiots, but had come to realize that in many cases it was the Values he represented rather than his character that they were endorsing. Paradoxically, ironically, his hubris has led him to defend those values with a level of commitment lacking in many “conservative” politicians who, for fear of being denounced as racists, misogynists, etc., become barely discernible from the simpletons of the woke Left. Accused of being a racist for attempting to stem the onslaught of “illegals” crossing the Mexican border, for example, Trump has steadfastly held to that position even as the chaos that has erupted in “sanctuary” cities across the States proves daily the sheer stupidity of Biden’s open border policy. This policy, of course, is but one of the many aspects of the Left’s seeming desire to deconstruct Western Civilization in the name of “inclusiveness.” If you think this is just another bit of far right disinformation, you either haven’t been paying attention or you too believe that Reason, Merit, Science, Math, etc. are but White, Western fetishes of no enduring value. This is to say you’re probably a “progressive.”

The disdain and anger frequently evident in Trump’s demeanor, then, is perfectly understandable to rational “conservatives” who see the lack of simple common sense on the Left as utterly worthy of anger and disdain. A flawed human being capable of making statements with which we may disagree, he nevertheless defends the fundamental values and integrity of the West with the courage and commitment of one who refuses to wilt before the insults of fools such as Robert De Niro.

De Niro’s rant was truly preposterous. America did not turn into a dictatorship during Trump’s presidency. The notion that he is a psychopath would seem to entail the belief that everything he believes in is insane. Inasmuch as this is definitely not true, I would suggest De Niro is the one who needs to have his head examined. While I would never think of depicting him as typical of everyone on the Left, his angry attack on Trump certainly conforms to that sector’s tendency to hurl insults at its opponents [i.e., racist, homophobe, etc.] while never really confronting the rational efficacy of their point of view. Such discussions, of course, must inevitably expose the inanity of most every “woke” agenda the contemporary Left supports.
