Help! Call the cops……I’m Being Abused by a Croissant!

In a recent seminar held in France, Professor Mathilde Cohen of the University of Connecticut Law School expounded on the issue of “food whiteness in French culture,” asserting that it enables “the racial majority to benefit from food privileges without having to acknowledge their racial origin.” The delights of French Cuisine, she argues, reinforce “whiteness as a dominant racial identity.” So French food being good is actually a bad thing!

Nothing better exemplifies the Left’s disdain for Human Achievement. Its much celebrated “tolerance” entails no tolerance whatsoever for the disparate levels of accomplishment evident within the species, disparities which it simplistically attributes to luck, environmental factors or the oppression of others, but never to human merit and effort.

But if the love of French cuisine represents an assault on the self-esteem of every foreigner living in France, is not Western reverence for the brilliance of Socrates, the genius of Shakespeare, the wonder of Mozart, etc., etc., equally oppressive to all those born of non-Western cultures? While the academics responsible for my University education, and two of them, Drs. Aziz and Juneja, were of Asian descent, clearly saw the cultural achievements of Western Civilization as a gift to be shared with the rest of mankind, that assumption is now deemed to be both naive and oppressive. Conversely, of course, when White Westerners acknowledge the achievements of other cultures by making them a part of their lives, they are accused of “cultural appropriation.” Either way, we are guilty. The Left, courtesy of Marx, sees us not as one species striving to be the best we might be, but as a horde of contending factions forever at war. What a sad way to go through life!
