Is “Progressivism” a Form of Insanity?

This past Wed. Democratic Senator Joe Manchin issued the following statement on Biden’s proposed 3.5 trillion dollar spending bill: “What I have made clear to the president and Democratic leaders is that spending trillions more on new and expanded government programs, when we can’t even pay for the essential programs, like Social Security and Medicare, is the definition of fiscal insanity.”

I have already mentioned Justin Trudeau’s proud declaration, as the recent election approached, that he was interested in families, not monetary policy. He has apparently been borrowing over 400 million dollars a day to finance his “generous” social programs. That his profligacy will ultimately devastate the very people he intends to help by producing massive inflation, is apparently a “real world fact” beyond his level of awareness; as is the case with American Democrats! Nancy Pelosi recently said of her party’s proposed budget: “It’s not about a dollar amount. The dollar amount, as the President said, is zero. It’s about what are the values we share and how we prioritize them.” In spite of the irrefutable testimony of history, Biden apparently thinks he can recklessly print money with no dire economic consequences whatsoever. Pelosi seems to agree. Are they just stupid or quite literally insane?

Unfortunately this disconnect from Reality pervades the “progressive” sensibility. Hence the Democrats’ failure to comprehend the chaos and ultimate human devastation that would result from an open invitation to the rest of the world to violate America’s borders. Hence their seeming surprise after berating and threatening to de-fund various police forces, that crime rates in many cities are spiraling out of control. Hence environmental policies that thwart N. American energy projects to the benefit of a number of foreign Nations that seem to have no environmental conscience whatsoever. Hence the inclination of leaders such as Obama to put their trust in the regimes of Iran and China whose propensities for deception and manipulation ought to be obvious to the average 8 year old. Hence the now trendy and academically mandated trope that the Rational, Scientific approach to the world promulgated by the Enlightenment is merely a White Western bias, while dozens of countries wracked with tyranny, poverty and disease prove this to be a brazen lie.

Haiti, for obvious reasons, has been much in the news these days. What my reading has revealed is that it is a Nation so dysfunctional that it has relied on foreign aid, and particularly the generosity of American charities, for decades now. As is usual in such nations, the aid in question rarely reaches those who truly need it. Is the notion that Haiti would do well to adopt the Principles enunciated by the Brits 800 years ago in the Magna Carta, a White racist notion as Ibram X. Kendi would contend, or is he too insane, rendered so by his inability to see anything but issues of race as he looks out upon the world?

Recently came across a quote from the wonderful Candace Owens who confides: “The most controversial thing I’ve done was decide to think with my brain instead of my skin tone.”

It’s apparently an adjustment beyond Kendi and that myriad of White “liberals” so consumed by Identity Politics that they have lost all contact with the genuine moral/intellectual challenges common to every human on the planet.
