As reported by The Blaze on July 2, CNN anchor Jake Tapper, in response to the efforts of several Democrats to defend Joe Biden’s performance in his recent debate with Donald Trump, compared them to the tyrannical leaders of Oceana, that dystopian dictatorship depicted by George Orwell in his novel 1984. To Big Brother, the symbol of Oceana’s assumed right to determine the views and values of its citizens, the facts of Objective Reality were of little import. Tapper insists that Democrats refusing to admit the obvious decline in Biden’s cognitive abilities are no less duplicitous, asking Americans to deny the very evidence of their eyes and ears. Ironically, 1984 is generally invoked to indict the political Right for its supposedly fascist tendencies. But here was Jake Tapper, on a self-evidently Left-leaning network, suggesting the Left was in fact guilty of brazenly endorsing lies in its attempt to remain in power.
Several commentators willing to admit Biden’s mental infirmity, countered by citing Trump’s pathological tendency to lie. But this accusation is no less fraught with political bias than the idiotic notion that Biden performed well in the recent debate. Yes, Trump frequently speaks without thinking, not a quality one would like to see in a leader. But, for example, one of the lies habitually cited by the Left is his refusal to admit that the events of Jan. 6, 2020, entailed an attempt to overthrow the American government. As I have discussed in several blogs, the Left’s insistence on referring to the march on the Capitol as a violent “insurrection” incited by Trump is a disgusting violation of the facts. Ninety-nine percent of the “insurrectionists” were unarmed, many of them invited into the building by guards who opened doors for them. In a documented speech, Trump had asked his supporters to demonstrate “peacefully” and “lawfully.” Indeed he had suggested to Pelosi and company that they get assistance from the National Guard should things get out of hand. Yes, he had whined that the election had been stolen from him, but so had Hillary Clinton after her defeat in 2016. Moreover while he and Republicans in general felt the slackening of the protocols [i.e., the endorsement of phone-in voting, etc.] designed to insure the legitimacy of each and every vote had contributed to massive voter fraud, the relentlessly hypocritical Left suggested this concern was rooted in a desire to keep poor people, and particularly poor Black people, from voting. Yes, the self-righteous Left was suggesting those most likely to vote in their favor ought to be exempt from the Rule of Law! The stupidity of this notion is perhaps best validated by the fact that the ladies of The View insisted that asking Black voters to show valid evidence of their identity is clearly racist. It’s the sort of brazenly biased denial of Reality cited by Jake Tapper in his comments. Sadly, this disdain for the Objective Truth pervades those on the “woke” Left, many of their rants against “on-line misinformation” being no less ridiculous than their insistence that those who strolled through the Capitol on Jan. 6 were intent on overthrowing the U.S. government.
Welcome to the Dystopian West, a cultural regime dominated by the “ideas” born of my very own generation, i.e., the Woodstock Generation. Ironically, those who saw themselves as heroic warriors against the “oppressive” norms of the 60s, gave birth to an era so brazenly oppressive that it demands people actually pay homage to all sorts of manifest lies. It is no doubt grounds for Hope that even people such as Jake Tapper, affiliated with the fascist Left, have begun to admit the absurdity of its disdain for the Objective Truth.
