If you vote Left, you are literally voting for academically sanctioned bullshit!
On April 5, 2017, “conservative” commentator Heather MacDonald was scheduled to speak at Claremont McKenna College, UCLA, ostensibly to defend American police forces against the charge of being systemically racist and genocidal. Members of BLM disrupted the event, many in the unruly mob chanting “Fuck White Supremacy.” What was most interesting to me was the letter they penned to the president of Pomona College who had defended the principle of Free Speech. It went as follows:
Historically white supremacy has venerated the idea of objectivity, and wielded a dichotomy of subjectivity vs. objectivity as a means of silencing oppressed peoples. The idea that there is a simple truth…the Truth…is a construct of the Euro West that is deeply rooted in the Enlightenment.
No one is suggesting that the Truth is ever either simple or readily accessible. But what this letter does is challenge the very existence of Objective Truth, thereby making biased, personal opinion [i.e., “subjective truth”], however absurd, however self-serving, utterly unassailable. It is a recipe for intellectual chaos. It is the principle that makes meaningful dialogue between today’s various contending political factions virtually impossible.
Brooklyn College professor of Math Laurie Rubel recently stated that the notion that 2+2=4 “reeks of white supremacist patriarchy,” adding that “The idea that math [or data] is culturally neutral or in any way objective is a myth.” She is not some lone Leftist loony, professors from Harvard and various other major universities subsequently taking to Twitter to discuss the Eurocentric nature of Math as we know it, the very topic no doubt greeted with delight by Ibram X. Kendi.
“Progressives,” faced with the option of admitting some peoples to have been less rational, less scientific than their Western contemporaries, or simply dismissing Reason and Science as Western eccentricities, choose the latter! They have literally been rendered insane by their sentimental Ideology!
Scan your computer for books and articles on “Indigenous Science” and you will be greeted with a plethora of content celebrating the living, holistic, spiritual nature of the relationship between America’s Indians and their environment. While they did of course make some significant discoveries of a pragmatic nature, what we are being asked to accept is that beliefs which were often little more than sheer superstition are in their own way just as valid as those forged of a rational, Western perspective. What we are being asked to accept is a definition of “Science” that renders the term utterly meaningless. But not only is a rational approach to the Empirical World no longer defended here in the “progressive” West, it is actually demonized for its impact on the environment.
In a June, 2015 article in the Toronto Star, Rick Salutin suggests the Indigenous of the Americas may in fact have been “prescient” in their failure to develop any significant degree of technology. His claim ludicrously equates primitivism to environmental sensitivity, non-achievement to achievement, leading inevitably to the narrative, once again, that the accomplishments of Western Man make him the most pernicious force in all of history.
The benefits to human welfare produced by technology are too numerous to mention. To those sanctimonious environmentalists for whom technology is the root of all evil, I say: Abandon your homes, abandon your televisions, cell phones and computers, forget about modern medicine, supermarkets and motorized vehicles and go live more or less defenseless before the elements. And get back to me after a year and tell me how you feel about Technology!
Obviously we need to be environmentally conscientious. Eco-Modernists say our capacity for intelligence and ingenuity will be of inestimable value as we attempt to adapt to the future. But this is, in our contemporary world, a typically arrogant, Western assertion, intelligence and ingenuity now deemed to be no more valid than their opposites. Am I exaggerating? Remember, academics are now arguing that a White person insisting that 2+2=4 is a fact as opposed to an opinion, is Racist !
Nathaniel Branden says that Aristotle, in his unbiased acceptance of Man’s inherent capacity for Reason, was more empirical than most contemporary “intellectuals” and academics, those who disparage Reason simply because not all peoples are equally Rational. Hence the enshrinement of a Zeitgeist in which a myriad of ostensibly Objective Truths have been relegated to the odious status of “hate speech.” Yet those guilty of that stratagem at the same time have the audacity to argue that it is they whose world-view is Rational, Scientific and Objective! Truly absurd!
