Five days after Charlie Kirk’s murder, Jimmy Kimmel devoted a portion of his monologue to mocking the outrage expressed by conservatives seemingly intent on “doing everything they can to score political points from it.” His implication was clearly that they had no right to do so, that the hatred that led Tyler Robinson to shoot Kirk was in no way invoked by the political Left. Indeed he asserted that Robinson was a MAGA supporter and admirer of Kirk. That this made little sense did not seem to matter to Kimmel.
Of course significant evidence had already been uncovered showing that Robinson was involved in a relationship with a Trans female and had expressed loathing for both Kirk, who refused to accept that an individual born with a penis could ever be a Woman, and for Donald Trump whom he felt deserved to be assassinated. Kimmel’s monologue, in other words, was rooted in brazen lies.
As you probably know, Kimmel’s ABC show was suspended indefinitely by his bosses at Disney in the aftermath of his comments. When FCC Chairman Brendan Carr suggested his Commission should pursue legislation which would allow it to punish venues airing the sort of trash spewed by Kimmel, the Left reacted with outrage, saying such censorship would mark the end of Free Speech and the death of Democracy. The Hypocrisy of such outrage is truly amazing. Leftist inspired Cancel Culture over the last few years has entailed attempts to stifle the voices of thousands who have refused to bow before the tyranny of Political Correctness. As Donald Trump Jr. recently discussed with Megyn Kelly, the intellectual degeneracy of the Left manifests itself in its ridiculous tendency to deride conservatives as Racists, Fascists, Nazis, etc., without ever confronting the rationality of their arguments. It is this, he says, which has inspired much of the violence plaguing contemporary America. A friend of Charlie Kirk, Trump Jr. maintains he was the kindest of men and one who conformed to none of the hateful epithets constantly invoked by the brain-dead Left. Indeed he asserted that Kirk had prophetically said: “When discourse ends, violence begins.” It is this utterly valid viewpoint that no doubt led him to invite multiple people of contrary opinions to engage with him in friendly, rational debates.
In response to Kimmel’s suspension, multiple Leftists declared it to be the predictable result of President Donald Trump’s authoritarian dementia. With the exception of certain brazenly hateful, incendiary offences, I frankly do not think any government has the right to censure the speech of any of its citizens. But as former CNN host Chris Cuomo pointed out, the government had absolutely nothing to do with Kimmel’s fate. His ratings were already low and Disney clearly felt that comments likely to alienate millions across the country could do nothing but deplete them even further. It was, Cuomo said, a business decision that Kimmel’s bosses were perfectly entitled to make.
The refusal of so-called “progressives” to admit that their Rhetoric of Hatred has anything to do with the ever increasing number of violent attacks launched upon their political opponents, has led to come truly ludicrous commentaries. As Tommy Lahren pointed out on Facbook, ABC commentator Matt Gutman recently waxed sentimental over the nature of Tyler Robinson’s relationship with his Trans Boy/Girlfriend. His frequent use of the phrase “My love” in their communications, Gutman said, was quite endearing. That he was talking about a cold-blooded, psychopathic killer, did not seem to impact his little sentimental testimonial. Truly bizarre!
But what about Jimmy Kimmel? However he may feel about Charlie Kirk’s politics, was not his attempt to derive humour from the murder of an innocent 31 year old father of two, utterly disgusting? Was it not ignorant to the power of 10? Kirk devoted himself to engaging others in rational debate. Reason, he felt, must ultimately lead to the resurgence of conservatism’s truly Liberal Ideals. Kimmel’s response to his murder, on the other hand, was sadly typical of the contemporary Left’s smug assumption that anyone who fails to accede to its Neo-Marxist narrative is just another hateful “Right Winger.”
[ P.S. As of Tuesday, Kimmel was back on the air. But just imagine if a White comedian had sought to derive humour from the murder of an innocent Black Man. There is no doubt he would be banished for life. Such is the absurd double standard of the contemporary, hypocritical Left! ]
