Dinesh D’Souza is one of the many “conservatives” I admire whose guiding principle is clearly Reason rather than any species of Hatred.
[Perhaps I need to explain once again that I always parenthesize the word “conservative” because it suggests we of that mind-set are opposed to Progress rather than the fact that we are merely opposed to changes that make no sense.]
In a recent Rumble podcast, Dinesh discussed the outrage expressed by Democrats over Trump’s assertion of the lawlessness of Washington D.C., an opinion that led him to recommend bringing in the National Guard as the Capital’s ruling force. He has since, of course, backed off that decision and D.C.’s police chief is once again in charge.
But what outraged Dinesh was the assertion of many on the Left that D.C. was a relatively safe place to live. Those making that claim, he said, represent the elitist disconnect from Reality that informs “Progressive” Ideology. While pretending to be familiar with daily life in D.C., many of those offering their opinions live in safe havens outside of the city, commute there and disappear into high-rise office towers, only to return to the safety of their homes as each work day ends. They know little of the actualities of crime in their country’s capital. The vulnerable [i.e., women, elderly, etc.] who live in the city, D’Souza says, are afraid to walk the streets at night. As I mentioned in a recent blog, there have already been approximately 100 murders in the city this year. Inasmuch as there have also been 200 or so carjackings, 1 person per day must expect to have his/her vehicle stolen! Crime, both lethal and petty, is out of control in the Capital of what purports to be the greatest country on the planet. That Trump was denounced by the Left as a dictatorial jerk for seeking to deal with this irony, is absurd. Indeed Dinesh D’Souza proclaims that in so many ways, “progressives” everywhere have become defenders and/or apologists for Crime itself!
