As reported by Sydney Fizzard of the Rebel News Network, at least one food outlet at the Calgary Stampede was found to be serving poutine sprinkled with mopane worms. Some of those whom he interviewed were perfectly happy to learn that they had just eaten worms covered in gravy, while others were utterly disgusted. The creatures in question are a dietary staple in nations such as South Africa and are apparently rich in nutritional value. That they have made their way into our Western menus is, believe it or not, just another aspect of the political Left’s hatred of everything our civilization has come to achieve.
As Cows release an inordinate amount of methane, a greenhouse gas, they are on the Left’s environmental hit list. Yes, there are other reasons for the ridiculous price of beef here in contemporary Canada, but at least part of its recent price increase is due to the various taxes and complicated regulations imposed on cattle farmers. Just as all of Western History is being maligned by the Left as racist, patriarchal, genocidal, etc., with little regard for context, so also our love of beef is apparently an abomination we must abandon. My heart goes out to those of you who, 30 years from now, may be reliant on worms and insects as your major sources of protein, while never having experienced the joy of a medium-rare sirloin steak!
