Let’s get ’em when they’re too young to think for themselves!

On May 26 the Calgary Herald published a piece announcing that the provincial government was about to step in and establish criteria governing the sort of content allowed in Alberta’s elementary school libraries. Education and Childcare Minister Demetrios Nicolaides revealed that several distraught parents had approached him as early as last fall expressing their outrage with some of the decisions made by educators in both Calgary and Edmonton, the provinces two major cities.

Describing the books presented to him as “extremely graphic and age- inappropriate,” he said he was “completely shocked and taken aback.” Among them were works such as Maia Kobabe’s “Gender Queer” and Mike Curato’s “Flamer” which focus on the complicated issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. Even more distressing, Nicolaides said, was that several of the books included graphic illustrations of things such as oral sex and other equally intimate activities.

That such works should be deemed appropriate fare for kids between the ages 5 and 14 is abominable. That those responsible for making them available in our elementary schools consider themselves progressive, is farcical. I do not have a homophobic cell in my body and respect every individuals right to define his/her own sexual identity. But the “reasoning” behind the contemporary Left’s support for the Gay/Trans movement is that gender is merely a matter of choice, that Heterosexuality is but another “construct” of the Patriarchy. This is a brazen lie that flies in the face of Objective Reality. Of course, as discussed in my last blog, the Left no longer respects Objective Reality. And so, led by its compassion for those who do not align with the human biological norm, it is apparently willing to assail 7 and 8 year old kids with the lie that their bodies really have little to do with their gender. That such a gross simplification might cause all sorts of distress and confusion among Alberta’s elementary school children and their parents is irrelevant to those in the public sector whose ideological biases apparently take precedence over the rights of those they are intended to serve.

Whereas Democracies were once deemed to be “By, For, and Of the People,” the academics responsible for introducing Gender Ideology into elementary schools or, as cited in my last blog, teaching kids that the concept of Objective Truth is a mere White, Western bias, have no respect for the people whatsoever, indeed habitually demonize their values and beliefs as the products of an ugly “populism.” The ultimate irony of this “intellectual elitism” is that its proponents are not Intellectuals at all, indeed are given to merely parroting the mindless cliche’s of Marx’s superficial world-view. Today’s true Intellectuals are the multitude of “conservative” commentators whom I cherish, individuals such as Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Candace Owens, etc., whose perspectives are rooted not in a simplistic Ideology but in Reason and an unbiased appreciation of the complexities of the human condition.
