Shortly after the Nov. 2 election of Winsome Sears to the position of Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, Michael Eric Dyson appeared on MSNBC with Joy Reid to discuss the significance of her victory. Sears is a woman of Color, the first to hold such a position in the state. Inspired by her father who came from Jamaica with $1.75 in his pocket yet went on to live a productive, comfortable life, she believes in the American dream, believes in hard work, believes in the values represented by the Republican Party. Certainly not so naive as to think there are not still traces of White racism lurking within the country, she insists it has nevertheless changed radically since the 60s and that any Black person who chooses to wallow in their victimization rather than take charge of their life has only themself to blame. A Marine from 1983 to 1986, she is an impressive lady.
But Michael Eric Dyson, a Black Sociology Prof. at Princeton U., clearly loathes her, insisting in his talk with Reid that while Sears may have a “Black mouth,” it spews nothing but “White ideas.” Implying that Republicans who welcome people of Color such as she into the fold are really hypocrites seeking to use them to their own advantage, he invokes the notion of White Supremacy perpetuated “by ventriloquist effect.” While it is a heinous insult of Sears, its even more egregious crime is that it reduces the human condition to issues of Race. There are not good ideas and bad ideas, values which enhance human welfare and those which destroy it. No, there are only White ideas and Black ideas and, presumably, Asian ideas and Indigenous ideas, etc., etc., etc. It is an utterly superficial way of approaching life. It is the Postmodern cancer at the heart of Critical Race Theory and it is Racist to its very core.
Suggesting that the sanctimonious Left, as represented in this case by MSNBC, is in fact the chief perpetrator of hatred within contemporary America, Dave Rubin points out the irony of the fact that the perpetually vilified Fox News would never for a second consider airing the opinions of a White person ranting in the horrific fashion of Michael Eric Dyson.
