The Rational Humanism that emerged from the European Enlightenment assumed our Minds to be our defining feature rather than such secondary factors as our gender or skin color. The number of Black commentators who have made Reason rather than Melanin the architect of their political views is truly inspiring. Yet when confronted by the brain-dead Left, they are invariably accused of being the playthings of their White oppressors, of being mere “uncle Toms.”
As reported by Megyn Kelly, Coleman Hughes, a Black man who recently published “The End of Racial Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America,” was treated as little more than a simpleton when he appeared on The View. Hughes being only 28, Whoopi condescendingly suggested his ignorance of the past lay at the root of his naivete. Yet his implied message was clearly that America has made tremendous progress over the years and that wallowing in the injustices of the past merely exacerbates racial division rather than healing it. Indeed while he did not use such language, he would seem to have been saying that the anger expressed by Whoopi and Sunny was itself but a form of racism!
In response to Hughes’ assertion that he is trying to approach reality as an Intelligent Rational Being rather than through the lens of Race, Sunny Hostin says he has obviously been co-opted by the Right and is being used to further its racist agenda. The incredible Irony of her accusation, of course, is that she is implying that Intelligence and Reason have little to do with her particular world-view. As if it was the ultimate insult, she accuses him of sounding very much like a conservative, to which he responds he has always voted Democrat in the past. Given that this appearance on The View occurred a few months ago, one wonders who he voted for in the recent election.
Larry Elder is a staunch, intelligent, Black “conservative” who judges people not on the basis of their skin color but on the integrity of their ideas and behavior. Prior to the Nov. 5 election, he mocked Kamala for the disdain she expressed for Trump’s border wall when he was in power, while then hypocritically suggesting he had not done nearly enough when she realized that millions of Americans had become outraged at the socioeconomic impact of having well over 10 million unprocessed illegals in their midst. As reported by Salem News on Oct. 29, Elder holds nothing back in criticizing people of his own color, calling Al Sharpton a “race hustler” and accusing the Obama administration of actually exacerbating the rift between Blacks and Whites rather than healing it. As evidence he cites a quote from Obama’s Black Attorney General, Eric Holder, who stated succinctly: “America has been a nation of cowards.”
Yes, you fools, America’s history is not perfect because our Species is not perfect. But the Civil War was hardly incited by cowards and the progress in race relations achieved in nations which derive their values from the Western European Enlightenment utterly exceeds what is happening in other parts of the world. It is Reason that has fueled that progress and it is Reason that energizes courageous men such as Coleman Hughes and Larry Elder. That they are frequently reviled by “liberals” as “uncle Toms,” is but another example of the contemporary Left’s utter intellectual vacuity!
