Please check your biases at the door. I’m not about to say what you think I’m going to say, my contention being that the simplistic narrative of the Left is itself responsible for reducing all of Human History to mere issues of envy, resentment and ultimately hate!!!
The fundamental Principles and Values and indeed the very survival of our Western Democracies are under attack, this assault the consciously pursued tactic of our “intellectuals” for over one hundred years now. Mesmerized by the oh-so-sophisticated narratives of Darwin, Marx and the Post Moderns, they have come to define us as mere animals concerned with survival and little else, our intellectual and moral aspirations being but aspects of our will to oppress “the other.” For Darwin “the selfish gene” is the key to the historical dynamic. For Marx its all about “class warfare.” For Foucault all cultural articulations are bur veiled forms of propaganda. The amazing irony of those contemporary “progressives” who share this perspective is that they see themselves as Humanists while literally having come to define us as but a sophisticated species of ape. Theirs is a parody of what the philosophers of the European Enlightenment would have defined as Humanism. Of course the inevitable result of this degenerate vision of the species is that Principles and Values have been banished from the political domain, their invocation always denounced as veiled rationalizations of the most despicable of human impulses.
My university degrees were achieved in the fields of Western Literature and Philosophy and up until 15 years ago or so I had little interest in politics. Since then I have amassed well over a thousand newspaper and periodical clippings from “progressive” publications which literally refuse to consider the substance of other points of view, indeed which demand we accept the integrity of their perspective for no other reason than it has become the dominant bias of our demented era.
Human imperfection is not defined by Identity. There are self-centered jerks among every permutation of the species. Yet we live in a world from which the complex realities of the human condition have been banished in favor of an intellectually bankrupt paradigm which sees the world strictly in terms of “oppressors” and their “victims,” the multitude of human attributes which may have contributed to their conditions simply not relevant. Intelligent, volitional human beings responsible for their own fates no longer exist in the world of contemporary political discourse, those “conservatives” who continue to define us as such consistently marginalized as loathsome monsters. Truly absurd!
What ensues is in no way rooted in hate, indeed assumes Reason to be the chief means of transcending the baser instincts by which we are beset. But utterly rational observations based on the demonstrable facts of History and Biology have been banished from contemporary Western political discourse. Examples of the intellectual vacuity of the consensus “progressive” world-view are legion. I recently watched a video in which the self-evidently Black and eminently courageous Candace Owens chuckled at the notion that she was a “White Supremacist.” It is a charge, she opined, mindlessly hurled at anyone who does not share the delusions of the Left. And she is right, an orientation which has reduced the human dynamic to mere issues of power having no other option than the abusive use of power to gain its ends. The vast majority of the writers of the mountain of periodical and newspaper clippings before me simply resort to ugly name-calling [alt-right, White Supremacist, Neo-Nazi, etc., etc.] while never ever considering the actual validity of the Principles and Values implicit in the views they are denouncing.
The rational “conservatism” defended here is decidedly of the center, flanked on the one side by those who truly are racists, misogynists and homophobes, and on the other by “liberals” incapable of seeing beyond the superficialities of Identity. That “conservatives” are typically consigned to the political Right is simply an indication of the absurd ideological bias of our era.
