The International Section of the N.Y. Times of Feb. 26/7, included an article by Black commentator Jamelle Bouie entitled “You Just Can’t Tell the Truth About America Anymore.” Given that I see evidence everywhere of Big Tech and Big Gov. stifling the free speech of anyone not in lock-step with Leftist Ideology, I was intrigued by his claim that it is “conservative” groups such as Moms for Liberty which, by seeking to enshrine “parental rights” in America’s schools, are in fact the chief threats to free speech in the U.S.. As I read newspapers like the Times for evidence of their bias, I was hardly surprised by the stupidity of Bouie’s argument.
Of concern to him are pieces of legislation pending in various states which have one very specific feature in common. The Indiana House of Representatives, for example, is considering a law that would prohibit the teaching of “divisive concepts” which might induce guilt or psychological distress in any individual or group on the basis of their “sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin or political affiliation.” Similarly a South Carolina bill would ban the teaching that anyone “by virtue of his or her race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, heritage, culture, religion or political belief is inherently racist, sexist, bigoted, ignorant, biased, fragile, oppressive, or contributive to any oppression, whether consciously or unconsciously.”
What these pieces of legislation are designed to quell is the cancer of Identity Politics, the notion that individuals are inherently guilty by the very fact of their skin color, gender, etc.. The absurdity of this piece of Leftist dogma is that while its adherents are perfectly comfortable with impugning all White people for the sins of their forbears, they would be appalled should one suggest, for example, that all Muslims are inherently homicidal based on the history, both past and present, of their religion. Identity Politics literally endorses superficial stereotypes, eliminating from political discussion the Humanist unit of the thinking, moral Individual perfectly capable of transcending the biases born of race and gender.
So while the title of Bouie’s article suggests he is devoted to exploring the truth about America’s past, his actual intent is the application of a deeply flawed and crassly ideological perspective in which historical figures are assigned their guilt or innocence in accordance with their Identity. Clearly unaware of his own bias, he identifies “conservative” ideology as the main threat to America’s democracy. No doubt there are those on the Right who are Ideologues in the worst sense of that word. But the overwhelming majority of the “conservative” intellectuals I admire are devoted to Reason and Empirical Evidence as the arbiters of their beliefs. The true perversion of Postmodernism, of course, is to have declared the Common Sense born of such a world-view to be just another Ideological Bias. Hence the utter disdain for common sense evident everywhere today on the Left! Hence the speciousness of this article printed in the revered bible of “liberalism,” the N.Y. Times!
Just imagine the racially motivated moral outrage that would have exploded throughout the mainstream Western press had the individual who smacked Chris Rick in the face at the Academy Awards a few days ago been a White Man!
