A friend recently sent me a video on the state of the automobile industry in China which focused on that country’s practice of copying the style and technology of dozens of Western vehicles and then selling them by the millions at huge discounts to their own citizens. No better example of the CCP’s disdain for the concept of “intellectual property” exists. Nothing better illustrates its disregard for the principle of The Rule of Law. Only a complete simpleton would deal with the government of China in the expectation that it might respond in good faith.
In 2014 Barack Obama came to an agreement with China whereby that country would begin to curb its CO2 emissions by the year 2030. It was referred to by The National Post’s Rex Murphy not as a deal so much as a capitulation. Of course it was on the basis of such achievements that Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize. I read just the other day that China is so utterly unconcerned with environmental issues that it continues to be responsible for fully half of the world’s oceanic pollution!
On Dec. 9 The Rebel’s Ezra Levant published the details of a 34 page access to information document he managed to acquire from the Canadian government. It seems that while an attempt had been made to redact various portions of the document, it remains almost entirely legible. What it reveals is the persistent effort of Trudeau and his Liberals to maintain a cordial, cooperative relationship with the Chinese Communist Party.
Did you know that members of the Chinese military were invited to Camp Petawawa in Ontario to be instructed on the conduct of military operations in sub-zero temperatures? Seventeen such joint exercises were conducted and when, after the arrest of Canada’s “two Michaels” as a result of the Huawei controversy of 2018, our Defense Department cancelled the 18th and sent the foreigners home, Trudeau was apparently incensed!
I almost lost my dinner when, seeking to inform myself on the status of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, both arrested on no grounds whatsoever, I was confronted by a Global News article explaining that the report that they had been tried and convicted was the result of a translation error. Global actually seemed to be trying to mitigate criticism of the Chinese Communists. I’m sure the two Michaels, who as of today, Dec. 10, have been held in custody for 2 years, were comforted by the article in question.
In the spring of 2019 both Canada and the States were invited to share in celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Chinese Navy. The U.S. declined whereas Canada sent a delegation which attended several events through May and June. In Oct. of the same year we obligingly sent 114 Canadians to take part in China’s military games held in Wuhan Province!
While I shall not burden you with the details, Levant cites various other examples of Trudeau’s determination to maintain cordial relations with the Chinese Communists. In an earlier blog, as I recall, we discussed his decision to grant a multi-million dollar contract to a Chinese company to maintain the security of Canadian embassies around the world. And of course there was his famous expression of admiration for the way his totalitarian friends “got things done.”
Sadly, the simpleton-in-waiting in the Country to the South of us has no more moral or intellectual integrity than Trudeau. CNN is now beginning to highlight the Hunter Biden Chinese connection which it pathetically tried to bury before the recent election. It is a connection from which Joe no doubt profited while at the same time offering the Chinese access to the second most powerful man in the U.S. government. And while we shall not get into it now, a video has just come to light in which Chinese academic Di Dongsheng celebrates the covert influence his government had on those in the highest echelons of the Obama administration, of particular interest a spy, one Christine Fang, who apparently consorted with various high level Democratic officials before her sudden disappearance in 2015. Ms. Fang, according to Ric Grenell, former Director of National Intelligence, was but the tip of the iceberg.
The Democrats who never stopped cultivating the notion that Russian influence was a cancer infecting both Trump’s election and administration, have ironically themselves been the naive dupes of the Chinese Communists for years now.
At least one million Uighurs are presently being held in Chinese detention centers. The Falun Gong have relentlessly been persecuted for their religious beliefs. The brutal suppression of Hong Kong’s freedom fighters perfectly epitomizes Socialism/Communism’s inherent disdain for the Rights of the Individual. Yet the Ideologues of the Left continue to wander in the dark, their ambiguous relationship with the Chinese Communists barely distinguishable from the depravity of those who, 80 years ago, were really not all that upset by Hitler’s attempt to eradicate the Jews.
