Re. my last blog which dealt with the absurdity of the “woke” sensibility: Prager U. just posted a video of Oprah Winfrey at the 2018 Golden Globe awards fervently telling her audience “What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have.”
Of “the truth” and “your truth,” the latter clearly takes precedence for Oprah and the compassionate Left in general. Such is the dereliction of intellectual integrity at the heart of “progressivism.” Such is the principle which makes rational discussion with the “woke” more or less impossible. Such is the recipe for a Civilization rampant with self-centered children convinced there is no Reality other than their own!
But the ultimate irony of our contemporary culture is that those committed to the demonstrably silly notion that every version of “reality” is equally valid, never stop inveighing against the supposed stupidity of those on the Right, always focusing, of course, on the very worst of that persuasion while never actually discussing the validity of the Principles and Values in question. Yes, there are racists on the right. But that in no way makes Oprah’s endorsement of complete moral/intellectual relativism anything other than a recipe for cultural disaster! And it in no way disproves the “conservative” belief that the pursuit of “objective truth” rather than “personal truth” is an absolute existential necessity!
