In my last blog I gave a few examples of former members of the Left who had abandoned it as irrational, racist, and ironically illiberal in most every way. The common sense they exhibited in their transitions suggested there is a chance the Democratic West may not in fact commit cultural suicide in its mindless devotion to Inclusiveness. But I forgot to mention the wonderful Tulsi Gabbard, former Democratic member of the House of Representatives for Hawaii who, in Oct. of 2022, left the Democratic Party for the very reasons I have attempted to highlight throughout these blogs.

In subsequent statements she said she could no longer support a party driven by “cowardly wokeness,” a party which mindlessly bows before the whims of all minority groups while stoking and actually profiting from “anti-white racism.” Using the word “elitist,” she cited the Left’s inherent disdain for the “God given freedoms” she had thought to be enshrined in the American Constitution. Government sanctioned attacks on people of the Christian faith, she felt, were hardly “liberal.” Moreover the Left’s willingness, in the wake of George Floyd’s death, to vilify the police while defending hardened criminals, she found utterly absurd.

While not embracing the Republican Party, Tulsi asked all Democrats of common sense to follow her in rejecting the narrow-minded intolerance that seems to have taken hold of the political Left. Biden’s approval ratings are in serious decline as are those of Canada’s Prime Minister. While the “liberal” press generally attributes these trends to a rising tide of populist ignorance, each day yields new evidence of respected journalists who share Gabbard’s views. Matt Taibbi, a lifelong American Democrat, recently addressed a House Subcommittee intent on investigating the dangers of the federal government’s “weaponization” of its authority. “Progressive” efforts to ban so-called hate speech and disinformation, he asserted, were rooted in the fact that “many politicians now clearly believe the bulk of Americans can’t be trusted to digest information on their own.” Such is the elitist, condescending assumption at the very heart of the contemporary Left. Oddly, Canadian commentator Rupa Subramanya also addressed the subcommittee, stating that the Trudeau government, “draped in a cloak of niceness,” had become “regressive, authoritarian and illiberal” in its mindless pursuit of inclusiveness.

The N.Y. Times is hardly sympathetic to “conservatism,” yet recently published a positive review of “Where Have All the Democrats Gone?,” a book written by John Judis and Ruy Teixeira which contends that the Democratic Party has utterly abandoned its concern for the “common man” whose welfare used to be its primary focus, endorsing instead such elitist [ pseudo-intellectual ?] theories as the notion that White people are inherently racist, that Capitalism is inherently evil, that masculinity is inherently toxic, that gender is just a matter of choice, etc., etc., each of which does nothing whatsoever to enhance the lives of the vast majority of Americans! On Nov. 3, the same two authors published an essay in The Wall Street Journal entitled “How the Democrats Lost the Working Class on Immigration.” In keeping with the theme of their book, they questioned the highly debatable proposition, apparently shared by the Biden administration, that wealthy Western nations such as the U.S. are morally obligated to pay for the political and economic shortcomings of every failed nation on the planet, opening the immigration floodgates to tens of millions of “asylum seekers,” whatever the devastating effect on their own economies, whatever the impact on their own citizens already unable to acquire decent jobs, decent housing, decent health care, decent educations for their kids, etc., etc..

My point is that a good number of respected individuals, including those with obvious Leftist inclinations such as Tulsi Gabbard and Matt Taibbi, have now come to find both the Elitist Attitude and Political Agenda of the Left utterly unacceptable. Their opinions, they would argue, are rooted in simple common sense. Yet when devoted “conservatives” make the very same arguments, they are generally demonized in the mainstream media as far-right fanatics. My next blog will attempt to expose the extent to which contemporary political discourse has been poisoned by the abject biases of both the Press and Academia, each of which unconscionably uses the term “far-right” to demonize anything it disagrees with, even though it may be a simple matter of common sense, even though many who are clearly Not extremists in any way, are coming to the same conclusions. The ultimate irony of this situation, of course, is that the venomous rhetoric in question .is coming not from the “far Left” but from its Mainstream which, in its mindless devotion to inclusiveness, is quite frankly, intellectually bankrupt!
