Pandora’s Box

A city manager in Lynwood, California, in the wake of the Compton shootings, posted on Instagram: “Chickens come home to roost.” While Jose Ometeotl insisted that he did not approve of the attempted murder of two innocent L.A. cops, his statement suggested that justice was on the side of their assailant. Dear Leftist Idiots, you can’t have it both ways! You can’t promote a fundamental disrespect for the Rule of Law while then sanctimoniously saying, oops, I didn’t mean for that to happen!

Collectivists, those whose ultimate value is the “common good,” consistently deride the respect for the Individual that is the informing principle of the American Constitution. Indeed many of them argue this is not what the designers of that document had in mind. How can they not realize that as soon as you place some Abstract Value ahead of the sanctity of the Individual, you are inevitably bound to death squads and concentration camps? History proves it. Contemporary America proves it. On the basis of the demonstrably hypothetical and distinctly abstract notion of “systemic racism,” thousands of Americans have had their livelihoods impacted, their property destroyed, their health compromised and in some cases their lives ended, all this with the assent of the “compassionate” Left, a faction apparently unconcerned that the victims of their narrative are oftentimes innocent of any wrongdoing and in some cases are the very Black people they purport to be championing. But what’s the odd devastated life here or there when compared to the sanctity of one’s cause?

I recall reading recently of the reaction of the political Left to a 1997 book entitled “The Black Book of Communism” written by a team of European intellectuals, a book which sought to explain how approximately 94 million people had died in the 20th Century as a result of that ideology. What struck me as incredibly bizarre was the fact that “progressive” critics took exception to the work’s implied conflation of Fascism with Communism, as if those who died in the death camps of Mao or the Soviets felt any differently from those slaughtered by Hitler; as if those Idealists who treated millions of human lives as mere collateral damage along the road to their Collectivist dream were somehow morally superior to a man who was a demented, racist maniac.

To Acasio-Cortez and her fellow squad members, to Kamala Harris, to Chi. Mayor Lori Lightfoot, to N.Y. Mayor Bill de Blasio, to N.Y. Governor Andrew Cuomo and his brilliant brother Chris, indeed to most of the commentators at C.N.N., the N.Y. Times, Washington Post, etc., etc: You are all as responsible as the actual perpetrators for the surge in violence and bloodshed in contemporary America. This is not mere hyperbolic rhetoric. The gross irresponsibility of many of your statements makes you accessories to not only millions of dollars of property damage but to a significant number of cold-blooded murders.

Good lord, I have just read that even Al Sharpton believes de-funding the police is an absolutely ridiculous idea!!!
